NBA Summer League airball blooper is comedy gold

A hilarious blunder in the NBA Summer League was so bad it has came all the way back around to be one of the most incredible highlights you’ll see.

It's like this moment was scripted for a bad basketball movie.

The NBA Summer League has thrown up one of the great blooper sporting miracles you are ever likely to see.

Summer League is a chance for teams to give their new recruits and fringe stars a run to see how they work out in the almost big time with the biggest names in the game still resting up for the season.

Like the Aussie 6th pick in the 2021 Draft Josh Giddey who made it through five minutes with his Oklahoma City Thunder team before injuring his ankle and being put in cotton wool for the rest of the match.

But it’s a great chance to see how the rest of the team are going.

While any of the players good enough to play Summer League are still some of the best basketballers in the world, fans revel in any bloopers that come out of the games — and read way too far into any of the form lines minus the game’s biggest stars.

And the Knicks 94-86 win over the Pacers has given us one of the best bloopers of the year so far.

With the game still on the line with six minutes remaining, the Knicks led by three and the Pacers were looking for stops.

The Knicks' 2020 first round pick Obi Toppin is entering his second year and the power forward got the ball in the corner looking to extend the lead to six.

This is Obi Toppin.
This is Obi Toppin.

But he missed everything, only for the ball to bounce off the Pacers’ Duane Washington Jr., who went undrafted in the 2021 Draft, onto G League player Tyrone Wallace’s face and back up into the net for two.

It was a blooper so bad it turned out so good if you were a Knicks fan but quickly circulated on social media.

“Who gets credit for that?” the commentator said. "Does Washington get another bucket?”

Washington did have a massive game for the Pacers, who signed a two-way contract, meaning he can be brought up to the NBA and dropped without issue, scored a team-high 23 points with five-from-five from beyond the three-point arc and eight-from-nine overall.

Knicks star Immanuel Quickley, who the team is trying to turn into a point guard, had a brilliant night with a game-high 32 points.

Toppin added 22 points of his own.
