Kevin Durant wants no part of GOAT scorer debate against MJ

An NBA star who will go down as one of the greatest scorers ever seen, doesn’t want to hear any comparisons at all to Michael Jordan.

Kevin Durant will long be remembered as one of the NBA’s most lethal scorers to have ever graced the hardwood.

Currently sitting sixth on the all-time NBA points per game standings, Durant averages 27.02 points per game throughout his career.

Ahead of him are Jerry West (27.03), LeBron James (27.07), Elgin Baylor (27.36), Wilt Chamberlain (30.07) and Michael Jordan (30.12).

Durant’s greatest individual scoring season came during 2012/13 when he averaged 32 points per game with the Oklahoma City Thunder on an absurdly efficient 51 per cent shooting from the floor, 41.6 per cent from three and 90.5 per cent on free throws.

Those statistical figures added him to the exclusive 50-40-90 club, a feat only eight players in NBA history have achieved.

At a towering 208cm tall, the star forward can move and handle the ball like a guard. Giving him a unique skill set to go along with his silky smooth jump shot.

In a debate that started off talking about the best duo in the NBA, things quickly turned to just who was the greatest scorer of all time. It’s a debate however Durant wants his name nowhere near.

“MJ is one of one, God level, unmatched, unparalledm, a pure master at this sh*t. I’m still watching his games to learn. Leave me out of it please,” Durant wrote in reply to a fan.

Former Durant teammate Kendrick Perkins once again touted his claim the current Brooklyn Nets players is the greatest scorer of all time. A claim Max Kellerman flatly refuted.

“Perk you keep calling KD the best scorer of all time, if that were true he’d have averaged more points than Jordan in an era when it’s easier to average more points and he’d score more efficiently than Jordan,” Kellerman said.

“Michael Jordan not only scored more than KD, won more than KD, but scored more efficiently than KD.”

Perkins wasn’t going to sit back and let Kellerman walk all over him.

“That’s not true Max, that’s not true. KD is one of the most efficient scorers that we ever saw,” Perkins said.

“Has Jordan ever finished in the 50-40-90 club? Answer that.”

Kellerman continued to harp on the fact Jordan was the more efficient scorer than Durant

“He is a more efficient scorer throughout his career than KD. Perk by the numbers he is more efficient than KD, you can look it up,” Kellerman said.

Perkins wasn’t budging.

“By the eye test Max, since you just a numbers guy, KD is the best scorer that I’ve ever seen. He has zero flaws to his game,” Perkins said.

Debates like these pop up all the time. Whether they centre around who is the greatest scorer, defender or player of all time.

No one answer is correct as every person has an opinion on who they believe is the winner in each different debate.

The 2020/21 NBA season gets back underway on December 23 (AEDT), it can’t come soon enough.
