Aussie star Matthew Dellavedova has put pen to paper on a deal that will see him return to where he achieved the ultimate NBA glory.

The King is back in Cleveland ... Delly that is.

It’s been a big 24 hours for the Aussies on the NBA Free Agency market with two stars being taken off the board.

Aussie big man Aron Baynes yesterday put pen to paper on a deal to join the Toronto Raptors worth a reported $US14.3 million ($19.5m) over two years.

On Tuesday it was Matthew Dellavedova’s time to shine with the gritty guard returning to Cleveland on a one-year deal.

ESPN’s Olgun Uluc first reported the news, with Adrian Wojnarowski later confirming the deal is worth the veteran’s minimum.

Delly spent the first three seasons of his career with the Cavaliers, winning the NBA Championship alongside LeBron James in 2016.

He signed with the Milwaukee Bucks on a four-year deal before he was traded back to the Cavs in 2018 where his role has fluctuated since.

The New York Times’ Marc Stein later reported the Los Angeles Lakers “gave some consideration” to filling a roster spot with the Aussie.

It would have linked Delly back up with LeBron, instead he will return to the young Cavaliers squad and play a crucial role in helping the team grow.

Social media lapped up the news of his signing, while also thanking Delly for not signing with the Lakers and teaming up with Alex Caruso, with tongues firmly in cheek.

The Cavaliers finished the chaotic 2019/20 season at the bottom of the Eastern Conference with a 19-46 win-loss record, but Dellavedova believes they’re going to be in the playoff mix.

“I want to be in a spot where I can play and the team is hopefully either competing for a championship or going to be in the playoff mix,” Dellavedova said on Sirius XM Radio.

“I think Cleveland will definitely be in the playoff mix next year. With Kev (Kevin Love), Larry (Nance Jr.), Collin (Sexton) and the continuing development of the young guys and Dre (Andre Drummond) and then see what happens with Tristan (Thompson), I love playing in the playoffs and feel like I have a lot to offer a team that is going to be in that playoff, championship-contender mix.”

The 2020/21 NBA season gets underway on December 23 (AEDT).
