Aussie NBA superstar Patty Mills records ridiculous milestone

Patty Mills continues to look at home playing on the Brooklyn Nets roster, bringing up a ridiculous milestone in the side’s latest game.

Patty Mills a 'tremendous ambassador' for Australia

Patty Mills’ scintillating first season with the Brooklyn Nets has yielded yet another milestone. With the second of his four baskets from deep, the Australian Boomers captain landed the 1300th three-pointer of his NBA career as the Nets ran out 116-104 winners in their clash with the struggling Detroit Pistons on Monday (AEDT).

Mills has enhanced his reputation for radar-like three-point shooting since joining the Nets from the San Antonio Spurs this year.

He boasts the eighth-best shot accuracy from downtown this season and has landed the 57th-most threes in league history.

Earlier in the season, Mills broke the Nets’ franchise record for the most three-pointers scored off the bench in a single game (nine), entering the history books when he met fellow Aussie Josh Giddey and his Oklahoma City Thunder teammates.

The haul was also the best by an Australian in an NBA game.

As teams begin to target Mills outside the arc, his accuracy has taken a hit, but the 33-year-old said that came with positives.

“Everyone’s taking notice and playing it but I think it’s opened up other things,” Mills said post-game.

“I never like to feel good or bad just on shooting. That opportunity always leads to other open doors.

“Tonight was one of those nights where I had the opportunity to handle the ball a bit more and get into the paint and make plays, so I think those doors open when guys run out (to block three-point shots).”

As is typical of the Aussie bronze medallist, though, Mills was more interested in talking up his teammates’ achievements rather than his own, lauding Kevin Durant for his 51-point haul against the Pistons.

“It’s really special to see how he goes about his business off the court,” Mills said.

“Not a lot of people have the opportunity to see what goes into something like that.

“They see the result and the result is unbelievable, but for me it’s special to see what happens behind the curtains and behind closed doors.

“It was an unreal game by him.”

The Nets sit atop the Eastern Conference rankings with a 19-8 record, one win clear of the second-placed Milwaukee Bucks
