DID these kicks travel 15m?

Not according to umpire Andrew Stephens, who adjudged both to have not gone the legal distance for a mark to be paid during St Kilda’s clash with Hawthorn.

Having marked Leigh Montanga’s kick-in following a behind, Sean Dempster was shocked when he was told to play on.

Just seconds later, his kick to Shane Savage — which also looked to have gone further than 15m — was also interpreted as too short for a mark to be paid.

Savage, not realising play on was called, was tackled by Paul Puopolo, with Jordan Lewis then sweeping in and kicking the goal after gathering the footy.

The goal brought Hawthorn back to within three points and changed the momentum of the match, which the Hawks went on to win in a thriller.

But, as expected, the Saints weren’t pleased — perhaps understandably so.
