VFL club Northern Bullants set for meeting over Tarryn Thomas’ future

Tarryn Thomas has moved closer to making a return to football with a VFL club after being sacked from North Melbourne last year.

Thomas given path back to footy

Tarryn Thomas will revive his football career at the Northern Bullants but only if the storied VFL club can secure the approval of its board and sponsors.

The Herald Sun revealed last week Thomas was a player of interest for the Bullants after the league granted him permission to play for a non-AFL aligned VFL club.

Thomas met with Bullants coach Rohan Welsh on Thursday and on Friday he made clear to the Bullants he believed his future was at the northern suburbs club.

But after Thomas’ history of offences towards women, the Preston-based club will need to tick off his presence with its sponsors and board.

That process is likely to take place by Sunday with the club keen to give Thomas a second chance after he was suspended for 18 weeks by the AFL.

The league is yet to consider whether he could be available for the 2026 season but has made clear he will not be eligible for the mid season draft.

His camp will continue to fight for the right for him to be considered and is keen to receive clarity on why he could not play for a VFL club with an AFL affiliation.

If former top ten pick Thomas put together a full

season with the Bullants he would at least give him a chance to be considered by AFL clubs if the league gave him approval
