The Score: The real reason Rhyce Shaw shouted drinks for Sydney teammates after 2012 flag triumph

Find out why Rhyce Shaw picked up the bar tab after Sydney’s 2012 premiership. Plus, a Tour de France rider’s hilarious reaction after a spectator bared his backside and England’s incredible record in sporting World Cups.

There’s nothing like a former teammate throwing a curveball at you when you’re trying to be on your best behaviour.

Rhyce Shaw is doing a very good job of ticking all the boxes in his audition for the North Melbourne job and hasn't missed a beat since taking over as caretaker.

In the lead-up to his appearance on Talking Footy on Monday night, a tweet was sent out by Channel 7 asking if there were any questions fans wanted to ask Shaw on the show.

Former Sydney premiership defender Ted Richards replied with a question about how Shaw had paid for the club’s end of season drinks after the 2012 win.

“Here's an example of the great bloke Rhyce Shaw is,” Richards wrote.

“When we won the premiership in 2012 Rhyce Shaw picked up the sizeable tab for end of season drinks. Club offered to pay as we’d just won the flag, but Shaw said no, he wanted to shout everyone. Ask him why.”

The question was asked on the show with a sheepish Shaw playing a straight bat.

“We won the flag and we had a good couple of nights and I think it was about time I had a shout, so I made sure I got in before anyone else,” he said with a smile.

The real story is Shaw had cleaned up on the punt — and we’re talking a sizeable collect on the horses — which he wanted to share with the teammates who’d just given him the greatest moment of his career.

LE MOON LANDING

Rather than being punished one Tour de France rider should be applauded for taking crowd control into his own hands.

As we know the French like to get up close and personal to the riders but this fan got more than he bargained for after mooning the peloton.

A rider from the Bahrain-Merida team — whose identity is unknown because of the grainy vision in the footage on social media — slapped the fan hard on the backside as he sped past.

The cyclist ran the risk of being kicked out of the race as his actions could fall under Article 29.2 of the Tour de France rules prohibit “indecent appearance or inappropriate behaviour”.

NOT NORMAL FOR ENGLAND TO WIN

We shouldn’t have been surprised that England’s Cricket World Cup victory on Monday morning would be so dramatic.

England now boasts men’s World Cups in soccer (1966), rugby union (2003) and cricket.

And amazingly, the Poms were not in front in any of those three finals at the end of normal time.

England and West Germany were tied at 2-2 after 90 minutes at Wembley before Geoff Hurst scored twice in the extra half-hour to secure a 4-2 triumph.

And Jonny Wilkinson booted a drop goal in the last minute of extra time to give England a 20-17 win and the Webb Ellis Cup against Australia in Sydney after scores were locked 14-14 at the end of regular play.

At Lord’s, a super over, which was tied, and then a comparison of the number of boundaries scored was required to determine the winner after England and New Zealand both made 241.
