JACKSON Trengove is keen to lock down role at the Western Bulldogs in a pursuit of premiership success.

The swingman, who signed free agency paperwork to move to the Dogs this morning, played a variety of positions at Port Adelaide, before ultimately losing his place in Ken Hinkley’s team.

“I just think the Dogs have obviously got a great young list,” Trengove told AFL Trade Radio.

“I think they’re going to bounce back pretty hard next year and I think every AFL player wants to play in finals and hopefully to win a premiership so that really appealed to me.”

Trengove is expected to play in the backline alongside Dale Morris and as the second ruckman.

“I’m not 100 per cent sure where my best footy will be at the Dogs,” he said.

“It will probably be a little bit of suck and see, I think I’ll play in a number of positions still at the Dogs... but probably just tie down one of those key spots.”

Trengove played 153 games at Port Adelaide and won the club’s best and fairest in 2011.

“It’s extremely hard (telling teammates), I’ve loved the footy club have been here so long,” the 196cm utility said.

“Probably towards the end of the year it was made for me, I got dropped in a couple games and I was working really hard in the SANFL to get back into the side for finals.

“I was left out in a game where I probably could have played in and helped the team out. Probably that along with family and obviously my little girl growing up in Melbourne was probably the key factors in getting home.”

Port Adelaide has three days to match the Bulldogs’ offer, understood to be a four-year deal.
