THE Western Bulldogs could be the club to grant Jed Adcock the AFL lifeline he has been searching for, after the league on Monday granted the delisted Lion permission to train with the Dogs.

Adcock will join Bulldogs training ahead of Tuesday night’s national draft in Adelaide, as well as Friday’s pre-season and rookie drafts.

If the Bulldogs were to give the former Brisbane captain an opportunity, they would most likely add him to their rookie list, where he could be upgraded onto the senior list as a replacement for a player with a long-term injury.

After he was told in August that Brisbane wouldn’t offer him a contract for 2016, Adcock played his last game for the Lions in Round 23 this year — ironically against the Western Bulldogs. He played a blinder, booting four goals from 21 touches in his now former team’s upset win.

There are a handful of delisted players training with the clubs that cut them in the hope of a lifeline, including Nick Holman (Carlton), Jackson Paine (Brisbane), Josh Saunders (St Kilda) and Bombers Nick O’Brien, Will Hams and Ariel Steinberg.

Axed Giant Tim Golds is training with Collingwood and St Kilda and Melbourne are giving a number of players from their VFL affiliates the chance to train with the AFL squad.

Adcock, 29, made it clear throughout October’s exchange period that he was keen to extend his AFL career into a 13th season, claiming he had a few good years left in him to offer a club anywhere around the country.

“I can play either end of the ground now, maybe a little bit through wing and the middle as well, add some really quality leadership at a club,” he told Trade Radio.

Adcock left the Lions after a 206-game, 12-season stint, predominantly as a rebounding defender and midfielder.

He was drafted from the North Ballarat Rebels in 2003.
