Port Adelaide regains co-captain Tom Jonas to restock defensive options for former Power star Chad Wingard

Port Adelaide will regain co-captain Tom Jonas, star Robbie Gray and blood its sixth debutant and will take on former teammate Chad Wingard, while the Crows have once again dropped Bryce Gibbs to the SANFL alongside Josh Jenkins.

AFL round 10 preview review

Chad Wingard will play against his former Port Adelaide team-mates in Launceston on Saturday, but the Hawthorn player the Power gained in that headline trade - defender Ryan Burton - will not.

And Crows ruckman-forward Josh Jenkins’ is still not returning to the AFL, even after six goals in the SANFL last week. And Jenkins will find Adelaide’s high-priced Carlton recruit Bryce Gibbs again joining him in the State league.

Gibbs’ fall for the third time this season comes with the return of the versatile Wayne Milera, five weeks after the half-back/midfielder suffered a shoulder injury against Gold Coast.

Milera marks the only change in the Adelaide 22 for the home clash with AFL premier West Coast at Adelaide Oval in the Saturday twilight clash.

Port Adelaide’s depth test will continue during the critical clash with the Hawks in Tasmania with the rise of rookie-listed ruckman Peter Ladhams to cover the loss of West Coast premiership ruckman Scott Lycett who will rest a sore adductor.

Ladhams, 21, becomes the sixth player to make his AFL debut at Port Adelaide this season, following Connor Rozee, Xavier Duursma, Zac Butters, Willem Drew and Joel Garner. But Ladham’s rise comes with the cutting of Garner, despite his impressive start in defence against Gold Coast at Adelaide Oval on Sunday.

The eighth-ranked Power has made three changes to its winning line-up - with Lycett reporting sore with adductor pain after the 38-point win against the Suns.

Co-captain Tom Jonas (calf) and match-breaker Robbie Gray (broken hand) return.

They force out of the line-up the inexperienced Joe Atley and Garner. Burton remains on the sidelines with a minor hamstring strain.

Jonas adds to the battery of defenders coach Ken Hinkley has to work against Wingard, who was traded to Hawthorn in October after playing 147 games for Port Adelaide - and winning the club champion John Cahill in his second AFL season in 2013.

Wingard is resuming after missing the past two games with hamstring tightness.

Power defence coach Brett Montgomery noted “there are a few guys (in particular Jonas and Darcy Byrne-Jones) who would like to take on” the task of minding Wingard, a noted X-factor in any attack.

Ladhams, a 202cm ruckman who is in his third year on the Power’s rookie list, will partner Patrick Ryder in the ruck battery while novice Billy Frampton remains on key forward duty in the goalsquare.

Ladhams and Ryder will not work against Hawthorn ruckman Ben McEvoy, who falls out of the Hawks’ 22 with an ankle injury that will sideline him for at least a month.

Hawthorn has made two changes with the recall of Wingard and defender James Frawley after a one-week absence. They replace McEvoy and novice Dylan Moore.

West Coast will return to Adelaide Oval - where the Eagles have a 7-2 record - after making three changes at selection, including premiership hero Will Schofield.

The experienced defender resumes with defender Jackson Nelson and emerging forward Jake Waterman. They replace young midfielder-forward Daniel Venables (concussion), ruckman Tom Hickey (ankle) and defender Lewis Jetta (AFL suspension).
