Former ‘Roo Nick Dal Santo floats potential Todd Goldstein trade as North hunts big fish

FORMER North star Nick Dal Santo believes if his old club is desperate to land a big-name trade at the end of the season, they may need to lose one of their stars.

FORMER teammate Nick Dal Santo has suggested North Melbourne ruckman Todd Goldstein could be put on the trade table as the Kangaroos look to land a big fish recruit.

The All-Australian ruckman in 2015, Goldstein had limited impact against GWS on Saturday with North Melbourne favouring first-year rugby convert Braydon Preuss as its starting ruck.

Preuss finished with 26 hit-outs (seven to advantage) to go with 16 disposals and two goals against the Giants.

Goldstein managed just 10 hit-outs (none to advantage), 12 disposals and one goal.

It came to light last week that the Kangaroos had offered GWS midfielder Josh Kelly a nine-year deal worth up to $9 million.

Dal Santo said the club would have to give something up to the Giants to get that deal across the line and Goldstein could fit the bill.

“I do get a bit of a feel … that they want all of these players to come in and they’re fully into (Josh) Kelly,” Dal Santo said on SEN.

“What the number is we’re going to have to wait and see, but they’re going to have to give something up, and Preuss might make it an easy decision at the Kangas.

“It will give them some leverage, it will free up a lot of cap space at the end of the year.

“Yes they’ve got draft picks and all those sort of things, but if they want Kelly or (Dustin) Martin (they may have to give up Goldstein).”

Preuss, just three games into his AFL career, is averaging 30 hit-outs, five marks and one goal and shouldered most of the ruck load against Geelong in Round 2 when Goldstein missed after rolling his ankle at training.
