Brent Harvey remains torn about whether to play on in 2017

BRENT Harvey remains genuinely torn about whether to play on elsewhere next year or retire a one-club player, but doesn’t regret pushing coach Brad Scott for an answer on his playing future before Round 23.

In an interview with The Footy Show on Thursday night, 38-year-old Harvey said he would forever remain a Kangaroo at heart regardless of whether he takes up another opportunity in 2017.

“Right now, I can honestly sit here and say I don’t know (if he will play on),” Harvey said. “I really don’t know what is going to happen.”

“I will have a meeting with my manager (Shane Casley) and I have a sit down with my family, and in particular, my wife and a few other close members of the family and see what they think. I think there will be a little bit (of interest) and something for me to consider, even if it is one club.”

It is understood at least four clubs have made tentative inquiries about Harvey playing on next year after North Melbourne opted not to give him a new deal.

While he remains convinced his 2016 form was good enough to warrant another season, he says there is also a little voice in his head saying: “Do you need to go and play elsewhere, you are a North Melbourne person, don’t do it.”

That is contrast to his belief that “my footy still says play on.”

Harvey said he doesn’t blame Scott, saying the decision was most likely a collective one that may have reached board level.

And he says if he had found out the decision after the Kangaroos’ season had finished, it would have been far worse.

“Brad could have said to me ‘we are not sure’, and then told me after we lost to Adelaide,” he said. “I would have been pretty dirty ... absolutely, I would have been.

“I need to know what it is going on in my life.”
