Emerging Hawthorn dasher Josh Weddle is set to ink a two-year extension in a boon for the rising Hawks.
One of the most important signings at Waverley this season, Weddle’s new contract will tie him to the Hawks until the end of 2026.
The hard-runner was drafted with the 18th pick in the 2022 AFL draft and made an immediate impact in his debut year last year, playing 17 games off a halfback flank.
The youngster has only taken that impressive start at the Hawks to another level this pre-season, winning all of Hawthorn’s pre-season running drills in a nod to his fanatic training style.
Weddle is seen as a damaging intercept defender, who could potentially develop into a 192cm tall midfielder given his tank.
With his signature locked down, the Hawks will now turn their attention to the likes of Changkuoth Jiath, Bailey Macdonald and Blake Hardwick, who all come out of contract at the end of this season.
