Lachie Whitfield gives money to his sister after signing new mega seven-year deal with GWS

Lachie Whitfield has just signed a huge new seven-year contract with GWS and while you wouldn’t begrudge him spending up big to celebrate, he’s actually gone the other way to help give a loved one a head start.

Greater Western Sydney star Lachie Whitfield has just signed a new lucrative seven-year contract but you won’t catch him splashing his new cash on himself — yet.

Whitfield is the latest high-profile Giant to re-sign, inking a deal until the end of 2027 that all but assures he’ll play out his career at the club.

While you wouldn’t begrudge him spending up big to celebrate the new contract, Whitfield has gone the other way.

The 25-year-old has selflessly given money to a family member to give them a head start.

“I actually just gave my sister a little bit of money so she could buy her first house,” Whitfield told SEN SA.

The silky onballer and his teammates head to Noosa on Tuesday for a training camp to ramp up preparations for next season.

While the players are yet to fully dissect the crushing Grand Final loss to Richmond, Whitfield revealed the camp will provide the group with an opportunity to review and discuss what went wrong.

He has no regrets about playing in the premiership decider, however, just over a week after having surgery to remove his appendix.

“It was tough, it was a tough game. Tough for everyone that played,” he said.

“Physically I felt pretty good. Maybe a little bit more tired throughout the game than I usually am but I felt like in reflection I still probably should have played.

“I didn’t help the team (as much as) I would have liked but I guess that’s the whole way the game went. Everyone probably looks back on it and says they could have done a little bit more in that game but Richmond played out of their skin, as they did all year, so they were too good for us on the day.”
