IT’S deja vu in the AFL with Patrick Dangerfield declaring he’ll miss a match to be at the birth of his first child, only weeks after Scott Pendlebury said he’d leave mid-match to be with wife Alex.

GEELONG superstar Patrick Dangerfield says he will miss a game to be at the birth of his child.

The Brownlow Medallist and wife Mardi are expecting their first child next month, with the Cats set for a blockbuster clash against the Giants at Spotless Stadium on July 1.

Geelong then play Brisbane at the Gabba before hosting the Hawks at the MCG.

When asked whether he would miss a game to be at the birth, Dangerfield said: “At this stage, yes.

“I would prefer to be there.”

It is deja vu in the AFL world after only last month Collingwood captain Scott Pendlebury declaring he would leave mid-match should wife Alex go into labour.

The Magpies, funnily enough, were also playing the Giants in Sydney when their first baby was due.

Pendlebury played against GWS, with Alex going into labour only days later and their first child, son Jax, arrived safely.

Dangerfield said he and Mardi will be well prepared and have all the available information about when the baby might arrive.

“We’ll call the obstetrician before the next few games and just find out where things are at, so we’ll get a bit of a guide from there,” he told Fox Footy.

“Then if it all happens, then (I’ll) miss the game. But hopefully (that doesn’t happen).

The Dangerfields announced on January 23 they were expecting their first child.
