Essendon shoots down rumours it is chasing Collingwood tall forward Mason Cox

Essendon’s scramble to replace wantaway tall forward Joe Daniher, should he depart the club in the trade period, does not include American Pie Mason Cox, despite reports the Bombers would target the towering Collingwood import.

Day two trade moves

Essendon denied it is pursuing a bombshell trade for Collingwood spearhead Mason Cox.

The Bombers poured cold water on reports the 211cm Texan was a left-field replacement option for wantaway forward Joe Daniher at Tullamarine.

Essendon wants to block Daniher’s trade request to Sydney Swans, unless John Longmire’s men stump up two high-end picks for the gun goal kicker.

List manager Adrian Dodoro said the Bombers were not chasing Cox.

“It’s an inaccurate report, we are not pursuing Mason Cox,” Dodoro said.

Cox, 28, is contracted for one more season at Collingwood and is on a decent pay packet.

Moving him on from the Magpies could help create some salary cap room for off-contract stars Jordan De Goey, Brodie Grundy and Darcy Moore next year.

Collingwood is also set to bring in another emerging big man, Darcy Cameron from Sydney Swans.

Collingwood list chief Ned Guy is in the final stages of talks to secure Cameron from the Swans in exchange for a late pick next week.

Adelaide forward Josh Jenkins is also still looking for a new home despite his bargain-based price tag.

No rival clubs are yet to show much interest in Jenkins who could come for as little as $200,000 plus match payments next year.

Adelaide remains determined to revitalise its list for next season by hitting the draft.
