CARLTON looks set to secure GWS recruiter Paul Brodie to bolster its recruiting department once his AFL ban for betting on games expires next week.

Brodie was banned for 13 months for betting on AFL games after placing a successful $100 head-to-head bet on five games in Round 19, 2015.

That ban expires on December 1, with GWS expecting the highly regarded recruiter to join close friend Steve Silvagni at Carlton in coming months.

Carlton’s official line is that it will wait for his ban to expire before considering its position.

But with Carlton desperate to plunder several more drafts as it builds an arsenal of high draft picks it knows it has plenty of work to do and needs elite recruiters to help that process.

Brodie worked this year as a “consultant” to leading player agent Tom Petroro, helping the firm recruit teenage talent.

In Brodie’s absence and with Graeme Allan leaving GWS for a short stint at Collingwood, former Richmond administrator Craig Cameron has become the Giants’ list manager

Brisbane premiership player Luke Power has also been elevated as the club’s list co-ordinator, helping with the club’s academy, recruiting and list management.

Brodie’s bet won him $945 but was detected by the AFL’s monitoring of betting, forcing him to resign immediately.

He will have to reapply for registration as a club official, saying he had learned a serious lesson by betting on games.

“I have made a mistake which has let the club down, let down my family and friends, and let myself down,” Brodie said.

“I am very sorry for the lack of respect I have shown for the rules and principles that maintain the integrity of our game.”
