“The Reserve” is taking shape. Quite literally.

The new home of the Brisbane Lions at Springfield is making steady progress towards its expected completion in mid-2021.

The main field at what will be a state-of-the-art training and administration facility has been scraped out after months of earthmoving works at the Springfield site.

Lions players, coaches and officials have inspected the construction site and Brisbane CEO Greg Swann said even though there is plenty of work still to do, the club was buzzing about its new home.

“You can see the outline of the ground which is pretty exciting. For the first time you can see what the possibilities are,’’ Swann said.

“Especially for the people at the club who have been hearing about this for a while, they are all really chuffed that you can see things happening.’’

The Federal Government and Queensland Government came to the party with $15 million each in funding to join the Ipswich City Council, Springfield Land Corporation and the Lions as funding partners in the world-class facility.

A second training field will be part of the complex, while the main field will have the same dimensions as Marvel Stadium in Melbourne.

It will host the home games for Brisbane’s AFLW side and pre-season games for the men’s team.
