Brisbane star Mitch Robinson ruled out of semi final clash with GWS

The Lions had hoped hard man Mitch Robinson had escaped serious injury after he left the field in the Qualifying Final loss clutching his hamstring. Their dreams have been dashed.

Brisbane will be without talismanic winger Mitch Robinson for Saturday’s semi final clash with GWS.

Robinson went down during the last quarter of the Lions’ 47-point loss to Richmond at the Gabba and left the field clutching his hamstring.

Scans on Monday revealed the 30-year-old had suffered a hamstring tendon injury, ruling him out of contention for this weekend.

It’s a fell blow for Brisbane after Robinson’s efforts in a losing side but teammate Stef Martin is confident the Lions can cover their hard-tackling cult hero.

“He’s had an incredible season, probably his best and he’s a big reason why we’ve done as well as we have,” Martin said.

“But with those wing spots in the pre season, we had a lot of guys putting their hands up to play those roles.

“We’ve had a NEAFL team performing incredibly well this year which has given us a lot of depth.

“If they get their chance this week they’ll be ready.”

Robinson’s injury will be monitored throughout the week and reassessed should the Lions progress and earn a preliminary final date with Collingwood at the MCG next week.
