BRISBANE’S pursuit of potential powerbrokers can go into overdrive after Adelaide and Hawthorn bowed out of the finals on the weekend.

Crows football boss David Noble is the leading contender for the vital general manager of football role at the Gabba while Hawks football operations chief Chris Fagan is favoured for the vacant senior coaching position.

The Lions are set to speak to Noble this week.

The Football GM will sit on the five-person panel to select the next coach alongside club legend Simon Black, CEO Greg Swann, list manager Peter Schwab and sports psychology expert Matti Clements.

Crows chairman Rob Chapman has said the club will release Noble with their blessing if he wants the job in Brisbane.

Adelaide kept Noble off limits while the Crows were still in the hunt for the flag but the disappointing loss to Sydney on Saturday night has opened the door for talks to start.

The Lions followed protocol and informed Adelaide they wished to speak to the highly-rated Noble.

SACKED COACH: LEPPA CONSIDERING IMMEDIATE RETURN TO FOOTY

Brisbane have not set a time frame for the appointment of the coach to replace Justin Leppitsch, who has been linked to a return to Richmond’s football department where he served as an assistant coach.

Fagan wants the Lions job but needs to go through the selection process alongside other contenders such as Brett Ratten, John Barker and Adam Kingsley.
