RICHMOND

THREE PLAYERS TO WATCH

Dustin Martin ($563,800, Mid)

Forget last year, Dusty wasn’t at peak fitness - following calf and knee complaints for long periods — and it impacted his scoring. Bank on the Brownlow Medallist to hit back with vengeance in 2019.

Tom Lynch ($425,600, Fwd)

The high-profile recruit, who averaged 86 points across the past four seasons at the Suns, should relish having the likes of Martin, Cotchin, Lambert and Edwards delivering the Sherrin lace out.

Alex Rance ($448,100, Def)

The key defender logged his lowest season average since 2010 last year and is available at an almost $50,000 discount on last year’s starting price. He can be a rollercoaster but there aren’t too many more consistent scorers in the backline.

ST KILDA

THREE PLAYERS TO WATCH

Jack Billings ($437,600, Fwd)

Is this Groundhog Day? It feels a bit like that but Billings is far too good to ignore entering his sixth season. Billings has averaged 80.6 and 92.7 the past two seasons. Watch and wait.

Jack Steven ($513,500, Mid)

A lot depends on how the Saints fair but Steven is one of only a handful of players in the competition capable of punching out 130+ scores. Doing it regularly enough is the problem.

Dylan Roberton ($297,500, Def)

The defender must first be cleared to return after suffering a heart condition and fainting midgame last year but he’s a proven SuperCoach gun after averaging 92 in 2017.

SYDNEY SWANS

THREE PLAYERS TO WATCH

Isaac Heeney ($529,200, Mid-Fwd)

Set and forget. Heeney has averaged 97 the past two seasons and should be primed to burst through the triple-figure barrier in 2019 with more midfield exposure.

Nick Blakey ($166,800, Fwd)

We know the Swans aren’t afraid to give the kids a go at the top level and Blakey may well be one of the best to come through the Sydney Academy. The 195cm teenager is likely to start forward, alongside mentor Lance Franklin.

Jake Lloyd ($608,200, Def)

The most expensive Swan to start a season not named Kennedy or Hannebery or Parker in many a year. Lloyd was simply outstanding in 2018, racking up possessions at will and hitting targets with his deadly left foot. Will he draw taggers in 2019?

WEST COAST EAGLES

THREE PLAYERS TO WATCH

Josh Kennedy ($397,800, Fwd)

Far too cheap for a two-time Coleman Medallist. The premiership spearhead endured a rollercoaster 2018 season partly wrecked by shin and leg injuries. Kennedy averaged 93 from 17 games in 2017 — a repeat of that will do us nicely.

Elliot Yeo ($585,500, Mid)

The switch (Def to Mid) hurts but Yeo is proven, having averaged 107 and 102 the past two seasons. He was the 16th ranked player in SuperCoach last year and no reason why he can’t improve again.

Luke Foley ($117,300, Mid)

The 19-year-old late bloomer from Subiaco is widely tipped to be the pick of the mature-aged recruits this season after starring for Western Australia in the under-18 championships this year.

WESTERN BULLDOGS

THREE PLAYERS TO WATCH

Ben Cavarra ($117,300, Fwd)

The 22-year-old livewire — a former Morrish Medallist as a midfielder — booted 66 goals in the past two seasons for Williamstown. No stranger to kicking bags and winning possessions. Get on.

Toby McLean ($514,000, Mid-Fwd)

Bounced out of the blocks last year, scoring eight tons in the first 11 matches but faded late as the Bulldogs fell out of contention and Josh Dunkley moved into the midfield. The fifth-year midfield-forward will be better for the experience.

Tom Liberatore ($300,400, Mid)

Liberatore must be considered despite coming off a second knee reconstruction in four seasons. The enigmatic inside midfielder is back in full training and fighting fit.
