Max Gawn, the once-dominant force in SuperCoach, is beginning to test the patience of his owners and it’s happening at the wrong time in the season.
Gawn’s recent form has cooled, prompting many of his loyal followers to consider trading him out. If they have the trades to spare.
In the past fortnight, Gawn has posted scores of 90 and 79, dragging his three-game average below the 100 mark.
There’s much to unpack, so let’s quickly weigh the pros and cons of trading out the Melbourne ruckman.
For Trading Gawn
Currently, eight ruckmen boast better averages, with six of them being more affordable.
Gawn is set to face the competition’s top-performing ruckman, Tristan Xerri, with a projected score of 98 and an impending price drop of $42.8k.
Against Trading Gawn
It’s Max Gawn. Using a trade on a superstar is fool’s gold.
Melbourne has upcoming games against Carlton and West Coast, with projected scores of 116, 111, and 111 over the final three rounds.
Gawn boasts the second best average of any ruckman for the season.
And, once again, it’s Gawn.
With SuperCoach AFL editor Al Paton on leave this week, we bring you a condensed version of the Champion Data stats dossier with a list of the highest projected scores for Round 18 to help in your captain picks.
Champion Data’s latest dossier of stats reveals a big factor in Zach Merrett’s monster score in Round 17 (159).
The Bombers’ midfielder attended 26 centre bounces, up 33 per cent.
The CBA stats confirm for owners of another favourite ruckman - Tom De Koning - why they should be more nervous than Gawn owners.
De Koning attended 11 CBAs against the Pies, down 50 per cent on the week before. The dual ruck strategy with Marc Pittonet is having a huge impact on De Koning’s scoring.
His three-round average has plummeted to 75.7, from a season average of 106.6.
Bailey Dale had a role change on the weekend.
And SuperCoaches suffered. Thanks, Bevo.
Dale’s kick-in rate dropped 44 per cent, from seven the game prior to just one against North, a big factor in the Bulldog putting in his lowest score of the season of 65.
