Cash in those rookies, burn your boosts and fill your team with superstars as quickly as possible.
One standout rookie and high-risk, high-reward cash cow Matt Flynn are part of almost all our experts’ plans. Then it gets interesting.

AL PATON
OUT: Luke Trainor, Max Hall, Finn Callaghan
IN: Matt Carroll, Matt Flynn, Nick Daicos
Another version of these trades has the boost being used to swap Sam Davidson to Connor Rozee, who is a very appealing price and allows me to move a rookie off the field – which The Phantom tells me is the name of the game right now. The issues are that Davidson is scoring well and has more money to make, and it doesn’t get me Nick Daicos. Looking at Collingwood’s fixture, this is as cheap as he’ll be for a long time, and in six weeks I want to be trying to figure out how to get Marcus Bontempelli or Zak Butters without adding Daicos to the mix. That’s where Flynn comes in – hopefully Andrew McQualter can do SuperCoaches a solid and play him as the No.1 ruck for a month, delivering a badly needed $200k cash injection. He comes into Flex for me, with Levi Ashcroft bolstering the bottom end of my forward line.
THE PHANTOM
OUT: Luke Trainor, Christian Moraes, Jack Henderson
IN: Christian Petracca, Matt Carroll, Henry Hustwaite
I thought long and hard about the Tom De Koning to Matt Flynn cash grab, but, unless Marc Pittonet is named on Thursday night, I’ll hold firm. The aim is to trade premiums in, not out. With four boosts remaining, I’m happy to go with the two-down, one-up strategy this week for Petracca. The Demons star is building and recorded a season-high centre bounce attendance against the Dockers. And he’s available as a forward at less than $490k. And he has the Tigers the MCG. Going down the value upgrade path also allows me to keep the more reliable rookies in Sam Davidson and Murphy Reid, and rid my side of the others. And, no, I don’t have time to wait for Trainor’s cash gen to restart.
TIM MICHELL
OUT: Tom De Koning, Bailey Humphrey and Connor O’Sullivan
IN: Matt Flynn, Christian Petracca and one of Connor Rozee, Jai Newcombe or Matt Rowell
My gut has steered me in some very bad directions in the first six rounds but I’m optimistic my luck can turn this week thanks to Petracca. There’s still a chance I go with Rozee and Newcombe and wait a week considering Petracca has a 95 Break Even. But he’s too good a player to keep scoring 90s and I think if you VC him this week you’ll get a 140-plus score. He loves the big stage and Anzac Day eve has become a big game of the Demons’ calendar.
PATCH
IN: Christian Petracca, Matt Carroll, Matt Flynn
OUT: Luke Trainor, Finn O’Sullivan, Isaac Kako
It’s Boost time. I’ll be keeping a close eye on Friday teams to make sure Matt Flynn gets another run as solo ruck – if he’s not named (or Bailey Williams is) then Finn O’Sullivan survives. But if he’s rucking solo then I’m climbing back aboard with Matty ‘Flex’ Flynn. Worst-case scenario, he makes $80k this week, gets dropped or injured the week after and I trade him out, but best-case scenario is he becomes a guy who can earn north of $200k in four or five weeks. If you’d told us at the start of the season that Christian Petracca would be available as a forward for less than $500k we’d have been jumping for joy, and he’s a no-brainer, while the two sweetest words in the English language (de fault) bring Matt Carroll in as the only real rookie option.
SIMEON THOMAS-WILSON
OUT: Tom De Koning, Tom Powell, Jake Soligo
IN: Matt Flynn, Nick Daicos, Matt Rowell
or
OUT: Christian Moraes, Tom Powell
IN: Matt Carroll, Christian Petracca
I’m tossing up between going very aggressive and trying to get in two of the best midfielders in the competition to turbocharge my side and hope that the difference between TDK and Flynn isn’t too much, or play it a bit safer and chase Petracca’s value. Regardless, Tom Powell is gone for me.
CHLOE WILLIAMS
IN: Matt Flynn, Tristan Xerri, Matt Carroll
OUT: Kieran Briggs, Sam Davidson, Luke Trainor
I’m not over the moon about the second two outs, but I’m very happy to not have to watch Briggs play any more. That was rough, wouldn’t recommend it. Patrick Cripps once said the Blues were back, but it is Flynn who’s back, baby! I’m keen to jump on Xerri at what I hope will be around his lowest price, and I’ll have some money left over for next week’s trades. In case you didn’t already know, I’m a Matt Carroll fan and am hopeful he can hold his spot. So, how will I get Daicos? That’s future me’s issue ...
DAN BATTEN
OUT: Connor O’Sullivan, Christian Moraes, Bailey Humphrey
IN: Matt Carroll, Connor Rozee, Matt Flynn
Last week I had four players score below 40 ... Flynn (who I had already traded out) and Rozee will hopefully help fix that issue. It doesn’t make a lot of sense getting Flynn when Humphrey blew up in my face, but even solid scores from the Eagles ruckman will get him close to $400k – he is worth the risk amid the global cash cow crisis of 2025. Have tossed up Christian Petracca, but he still has West Coast to come the week after, while Rozee has a vulnerable North Melbourne on Saturday, a 60 Break Even and just scored a ton with James Jordon sitting on him.
TARQUIN OAKLEY
Safe option
IN: Matt Carroll
OUT: Finn O’Sullivan / Christian Moraes
Unsafe option
IN: Matt Flynn, Nick Daicos, Matt Carroll
OUT: Tom De Koning, Finn O’Sullivan, Christian Moraes
Do I make one simple rookie downgrade or blow up my team to get Nick Daicos? I am not sold on Flynn and was planning on keeping TDK around unless Pittonet came in and pushed his scoring down. So it would be a big risk, but one I am considering.
