SuperCoach AFL 2025: Experts reveal their trades for round 11

Are Jack Macrae and Jason Horne-Francis must-trades? See the big moves from the SuperCoach experts this week – and one who is playing the long game.

SuperCoach AFL: Joey's intel, best value premiums, and get the Bont? | Breaking Even with Al Paton

It’s a week for tough questions in SuperCoach.

Trade or hold? Target value premiums or bring in a marquee star?

At least the top rookie for the round is an obvious choice.

See how our experts are using their trades this week.

AL PATON

IN: Marcus Bontempelli, Cooper Simpson

OUT: Jack Macrae, Caiden Cleary

Still agonising over this one. Is it a smart move to pay $665k for Marcus Bontempelli a week after paying $735k for Max Gawn? There are very good arguments to say no but the point of taking cheaper premiums (who will most likely score fewer points) is to build a bank to get someone like the Bont ... so if I can get him now, why not cut out the middle man?

It’s also to allow us to finish our teams with 23 premiums, but I think I can still get there even if it means keeping Levi Ashcroft and Zach Reid through to their byes. By then hopefully Cooper Simpson has made enough cash to fix that final on-field spot at F6 ... and I can swap Matt Flynn to a cut-price Jason Horne-Francis.

I dodged the JHF bullet this week after trading him out six weeks ago (and missing all his good scores), and I want to take maximum advantage of my fortunate position.

I still have one Trade Boost left and will consider using it to grab an extra rookie this week to set myself up for next week if the round 12 cupboard looks bare – let’s see what teams deliver.

TIM MICHELL

OUT: Jack Macrae and Finn O’Sullivan

IN: Lachie Whitfield and Cooper Simpson

Simpson is an obvious buy. SuperCoach is all about blokes who play behind the ball now, and that’s where he has been recast. I have broken the scoring runs of Nasiah Wanganeen-Milera and Jordan Clark in the past few weeks, so figured I might as well do the same to Lachie Whitfield. At least if he scores 60 this week it’s against Carlton. I could hold Macrae, but I have two MID-FWDs in my midfield already and need to get Jason Horne-Francis back when he bottoms out. This might be the only chance I get to make ground from 24k in the rankings, so I am going for it.

CHLOE WILLIAMS

IN: Shai Bolton, Cooper Simpson, Marcus Bontempelli

OUT: Caiden Cleary, Levi Aschcroft, Jack Macrae

To Bont, or not to Bont?

Now is my chance to get Bont ... but is it worth it? I’ve been hunting value all year and for now it has paid off. He’ll be my first big purchase of the year after getting the rest of my premos at a reduced rate. But does he have a reduced rate? I don’t particularly want to part with Ashcroft and Cleary, who will be handy over the byes, but the trade-off - Simpson and Bolton - seems worth it. A strong premo and another value option.

HAYDN ‘DOS’ KENNY

OUT: Caiden Cleary, Elijah Hewett

IN: Isaac Heeney, Cooper Simpson

“This is fine”. The wise words spoken by a cartoon dog sipping a cup of coffee while his house is burning down. I’m choosing to live by this meme as a proud Horne-Francis, Macrae, AND Callaghan owner. And not just an owner – a proud holder! I’m ready for some short term pain for long term gain, primed to power home after the byes in a blaze of glory! So this week, the ‘one up, one down’ cadence continues. The reward? Isaac Heeney. Fresh off his best game of the season and with a mouth-watering price tag just one year removed from a 117-point average. Wish me luck as I sip my coffee this weekend ... Hopefully, without a donut on the side.

MATT FORREST

IN: Jack Sinclair, Tom Sims

OUT: Levi Ashcroft, Riley Hardeman

Sinclair is a great option as a high ceiling defender, but also his scoring is good enough to fill a void in the midfield if required. That added flexibility is great as I try to cover Jack Macrae and Jason Horne-Francis without trading them. Tom Sims hasn’t set the world on fire, but the Tigers are without Tom Lynch this week, and I already have Cooper Simpson. I might change my mind on Sims and go a different rookie, but we’ll see how the week goes. Levi Ashcroft and Riley Hardeman have run their race and I thank them for their services.

TARQUIN OAKLEY

IN: Shai Bolton, Cooper Simpson, Jordan Dawson

OUT: Jack Macrae, Finn O’Sullivan, Henry Hustwaite

Still deciding whether to ditch JHF or Macrae –and which premium midfielder to bring in – but otherwise these will be my moves this week. I could go Libba, Dunkley, Newcombe or Anderson instead of Dawson, but the Crows play the Eagles this week and I only have a couple of premiums on Adelaide’s round 15 bye. Like the look of the Freo pair who, will both make money, while O’Sullivan just never came on and Hustwaite won’t be getting back into Hawthorn’s team without an injury.
