SuperCoach AFL 2017: Patrick Dangerfield most expensive player ahead of Scott Pendlebury

IS PATRICK Dangerfield worth it? The Geelong superstar is the most expensive player in SuperCoach but there’s one question you must answer first.

WILL you pick Patrick Dangerfield in 2017?

The Geelong superstar will start next season with an insane price tag of $716,900.

That’s a whole lot of cash to drop on one player - 7.1 per cent of your salary cap in fact - even if he did average 132 this year.

Before you answer, ask yourself “would I pick Gary Ablett in his prime?”.

If the answer is yes, then don’t hesitate, add Dangerfield straight away and watch the new perma-captain do what he does best. Score and score big.

If the answer is no, hope that Dangerfield drops in price and pick him up as early as possible.

Let’s be honest though, the $71,200 you save by picking Scott Pendlebury as your No.1 midfielder could come in really handy when tossing up between a fallen premium or mid-price gamble.

Pendlebury comes in at $645,700, just ahead of the No.1 ruckman Max Gawn at $645,500, the only non-midfielder in the top-10.

Gawn is a little cheaper than Todd Goldstein ($588,400 in 2017) at the start of 2016, which is some comfort, and he will remain very popular heading into the new season.

Unbelievably three Sydney midfielders are all in the top-10; Josh Kennedy ($617,100), Dan Hannebery ($616,800) and Luke Parker ($608,900).

At no stage did the Swans trio vulture points from each other in 2016 - which is a miracle in itself - but now with Tom Mitchell at Hawthorn, there’s arguably more points to share around, so pick them knowing they are safe bets.

Finally, let’s swing back around to Mr Ablett.

He’ll start 2017 at $620,600, which is $3000 less than 2016, and we all picked him then.

It’s fair to say the little master is no longer the safe bet he once was but for what he is capable of, that’s super cheap.
