OUR TRADES

Al Paton

MY TRADES:Matt Flynn to ... someone

I still have a couple of spots to upgrade and the only way of getting any serious cash is to downgrade the GWS ruckman. But I won’t decide who to swap him to until after watching the Cats v Lions game. I’m hoping Mark O’Connor will keep Lachie Neale to a modest score then a swap of Flynn to $102k RUC/FWD Jacob Edwards will be enough to snare him and potentially Patrick Dangerfield next week. But if one, or both of them, explode their breakevens I’ll have to go back to the drawing board, probably trading Flynn to a safer R3 in Ned Reeves then tossing a coin to see which one of Danger or Neale I can take and who I have to watch in envy for the rest of the season.

The Phantom

MY TRADES: Lachie Jones and Tom Green to Luke Foley and Lachie Neale

My team is basically complete. Tom Green at M8, and to a lesser extent Jarman Impey at F6 and Changkuoth Jiath at D6, are the only concerns. And I’ll be address that main one this week, by trading Green - yes it’s a sad moment - to Neale. Cat Mark O’Connor may be waiting but this is a different, injury-free Lachie Neale. I don’t need to wait any longer. This will leave me with four trades but with some solid bench cover in Deven Robertson, Callum Coleman-Jones and Lachie Weightman, as well as the DPP-swing of Harry Sharp/Rory Laird if I get stuck in defence, and Jacob Edwards at R3. Jiath to Clayton Oliver could be on the cards down the track, depending how everything else goes.

Tim Michell

MY TRADES: NONE!

I know, Tim Michell making no trades. Is he OK? Good question. Yes, I’m feeling fine about where my team is at, low trades aside. I could move Lachie Jones to Lachie Bramble this week, but with only five trades left I would rather wait until Bramble is on the bubble next round. I still have Matthew Flynn but there’s no urgency to punt him with a break even of only 20. He’ll hopefully make another $20k to help bridge the gap to Brodie Grundy. Patrick Dangerfield and Grundy are the two premiums I need to finish my team, but I don’t want to trade Callum Coleman-Jones to Dangerfield yet. With St Kilda, Gold Coast and Collingwood in the next three rounds, CCJ still has plenty of cash to make and seems a solid F6. That’s when I’ll look to cash him in for either Dangerfield or Grundy. Watching other coaches jump on Dangerfield and trying to stay patient is difficult, but it’s a trade I need to time right. I’m thinking Flynn to Dangerfield next round might be on the cards, although that means playing CCJ at R2. I have about $255k in the bank after grabbing James Madden and Kieren Briggs last round, but will need every dollar to make sure I get Grundy and Dangerfield at the right time. I know, what a long-winded way to tell us you’re making no trades Tim.

Dan Batten

MY TRADES: Lachie Jones to Ned Reeves/Jacob Edwards or Luke Edwards

No, I haven’t hacked into the KFC SuperCoach servers. I will be able to trade a defender to a ruckman this week thanks to DPP rookies Trent Bianco, Finlay Macrae and Callum Coleman-Jones. If the young Hawk doesn’t receive a call-up, I will look to bring in boom cheapie Luke Edwards instead — or maybe Jacob Edwards, to allow for a CCJ swing. With six trades to go, and very little cash in the kitty, to make my final upgrade, I will probably be forced to play the waiting game while CCJ rises – ideally he will become Lachie Neale or perhaps Patrick Dangerfield.

TRADE GRADES

The verdict on this week’s most-popular trades in KFC SuperCoach.

TRADED OUT

LACHIE JONES $243,800 DEF

Al Paton: SELL — If you’re team is like mine he’s one of the few bench players left with any value. And since he won’t play for a month, you may as well use it.

Tim Michell: SELL/HOLD - Don’t have an issue holding him as he seems to be in Port Adelaide’s best 22 and could provide defensive cover in the last month of the season. But if you can swing him to Lachie Bramble via DPP and grab Patrick Dangerfield or Lachie Neale with the profits, it’s a no-brainer.

The Phantom: SELL - He won’t play for a month - and there are only nine rounds left. Make cash, or upgrade him, if you can.

MITCH DUNCAN $474,900 MID

AP: SELL — Very unlucky after scoring just 10 points before going down with injury. He was a great POD in the first half of the season (average 119 to Round 9) but has to go.

TM: SELL - Could miss the rest of the home-and-away season so you don’t have much choice. Put him on the 2022 watch list as he will likely be underpriced after scores of 73, 74 and 10 in his last three matches.

TP: SELL - I feel for you, but you don’t have much choice here. There’s a chance you’ll have to hold some short-term injuries in the run home but this ain’t that, unfortunately.

CALEB POULTER $313,000 MID/FWD

AP: SELL/HOLD — Will be a similar call for most rookies. If you don’t have to trade him he’s averaging over 70 and is excellent bench cover. But if he’s your path to a Patrick Dangerfield or Lachie Neale type, then he’s done his job.

TM: SELL/HOLD - If you held through his bye, there’s no urgency to jump off this round. Poulter could give your team FWD or MID cover in the run home. If you can get from him to Dangerfield though, do it.

TP: HOLD - For now. You held him through the bye so let him make some more cash. But, then again, if you’re one upgrade a way from a full team, then go for it.

Joe Daniher has lost more than $40,000 in value in the past month.
Joe Daniher has lost more than $40,000 in value in the past month.

JOE DANIHER $388,000 FWD

AP: SELL — After looking like he could be a keeper when he averaged 96 from Rounds 5-10 he has put up a 48, 88 and 57 in his past three and faces the Cats on Thursday night. Turn him into a genuine premo if you can.

TM: SELL - Only two scores above 90 in his past six and lost almost $19k at the weekend. You could hold if you’re low on trades but the aggressive move is a trade.

JP: SELL - Unless you still have some other rookies on the field, take what cash you can and upgrade him to a top-liner before Thursday night’s tough match-up with the Cats.

ALEC WATERMAN $202,700 FWD

AP: HOLD/SELL — If he returns this week he will make more money with a break even of just six. Wouldn’t blame anyone for trading him, though.

TM: SELL - Not a great scenario as he won’t make much cash, although you bank $100k by going to Bramble. A calf injury is likely to sideline him for a few more weeks and Essendon is winning without him so a VFL stint beckons.

TP: HOLD/SELL - If you have the cash to upgrade him, do it, but at $202k, there’s not a lot of value in his price. Might be one to hold for cover for the run home - he should return at some point.

Cody Weightman has averaged 73.2 KFC SuperCoach points in five matches for the Dogs.
Cody Weightman has averaged 73.2 KFC SuperCoach points in five matches for the Dogs.

CODY WEIGHTMAN $285,800 FWD

AP: HOLD — Hasn’t scored below 53 and has more money to make.

TM: HOLD - Looks likely to be great cover at F7 for the rest of the year. He only has once score below 60 and three of 75+ in his five games this season.

TP: HOLD - I am. My reasons are purely for bench cover, as my side is just about complete. But from a cash point-of-view, he’s still got money to make, too.

DEVEN ROBERTSON $339,900 MID/FWD

AP: SELL — Was always a stepping stone and while he hasn’t made much cash, it’s time to turn him into a proper premo.

TM: SELL/HOLD - I’m thinking similarly about Robertson as Caleb Poulter. He’s got enough value to become a premium but the thought of him providing F7/M9 cover is tempting. Trade if you have enough depth on your bench but hold if you need insurance.

TP: HOLD/SELL - Like Weightman, I’m holding Robertson as handy dual-position over for the remaining nine rounds - especially after he kept his spot in the Lions side, despite Dayne Zorko’s return. As a pure cash cow, however, he’s just about done.

JAMES JORDON $387,100 MID

AP: SELL/HOLD — Has scored below 80 once since Round 5, which is better than some more established midfielders (cough, patrick Cripps, cough). Still, if you have $190K turning him into Lachie Neale could deliver an extra 30-plus points a week.

TM: HOLD - Seven scores of 82-99 in his past eight games and a break even of 43 this round. Are you really improving your team much by moving him on if he keeps scoring 90s? I know I wish I had held.

TP: HOLD - You held him last week so, unless he’s your only way to a premium midfielder, hold him as cover.

Tom Powell has played every game for the Kangaroos this year.
Tom Powell has played every game for the Kangaroos this year.

TOM POWELL $306,200 MID

AP: SELL — Durability has been impressive but you really don’t want his scores on field when you’re opponent has Lachie Neale or Josh Kelly in that spot.

TM: SELL — Four scores of 51 or less in his past five games. His break even is achievable this week but cut your losses.

TP: SELL - Might not drop significantly this week but there doesn’t look to be another big rise in him, either. Trade, unless he’s staying as cover.

PATRICK CRIPPS $473,800 MID

AP: SELL ... if you can — Sadly the mid-season revival was short-lived. Just not the player he was. I’ve held until now but will try to turn him into Lachie Neale in the next fortnight.

TM: TRADE - Only one hundred since Round 4 and his break even is in excess of 120 this week. If I had traded Brodie Grundy and still had Cripps I’d be using DPP to grab Grundy back immediately.

TRADED IN

LUKE EDWARDS $117,300 MID

AP: BUY — I don’t have a rookie to trade down to him but if I needed a cheapie this week he’d be at the front of the queue. A 96 in a finals-like furnace against the Tigers should keep his spot safe.

TM: BUY/PASS - I’m wary of his job security but he’s looked at home in his first two games. Leaning towards no if you are looking for a rookie to provide cover for the rest of the year. I just worry he plays one bad game and will be out.

TP: BUY/PASS. He was terrific with 27 disposals in his second game at the top level - and his $117k price tag, along with a -91 breakeven, make him appear as just about the perfect downgrade. But with a number of midfield stars returning, does his role change slightly? And is he just one quiet game from the WAFL? An interesting one.

KIEREN BRIGGS $123,900 DEF/FWD

AP: PASS — Really liked his game against the Blues (especially after I traded him in last week) but worry he’ll be straight out if Shane Mumford is declared fit.

TM: PASS - Shane Mumford will be back this week.

TP: PASS - I’d like to say yes, but does he even play this week?

LACHIE NEALE $576,300 MID

AP: BUY — Time to get back on the Lachie rollercoaster. I’m not expecting 157 every week but at $576K you can’t really go wrong. With a break even of 94 you could afford to wait one more week, though.

TM: BUY - Not sure you can ever go wrong buying Lachie Neale and he was in ominous form against North Melbourne. The only danger is Mark O’Connor blanketed him earlier this year.

TP: BUY - Mark O’Connor might go to him again, like he did in Round 2, but it’s a different, injury-free, Lachie Neale this time around. I’m jumping on this week.

PATRICK DANGERFIELD $515,400 FWD/MID

AP: BUY — I really, really want Dangerfield in my forward line for the run home. The only question is whether to jump this week or wait one more and hope he gets a bit cheaper. His recent form against the Lions — 146 in 2020 and in 2019 — might sway me.

TM: BUY - Likely to be cheaper in Round 16, but not by much. I wouldn’t trade Callum Coleman-Jones to him though, that move is at least a few weeks away.

TP: BUY - He might get a bit cheaper, sure, but if you’ve got a spot for him, and can afford it, do it now. It’s one extra round of what hopefully is a premium score. An extra $15k wouldn’t help much, anyway.

LACHLAN BRAMBLE $102,400 MID

AP: PASS — You can afford to wait a week until he’s on the bubble but I liked what I saw in game one. Could be an option if Luke Edwards is surprisingly dropped.

TM: BUY - Looked polished on debut and Hawthorn seems keen to get games into its younger players.

TP: WAIT - Did some nice things on debut, but wait another week if you can.

SCOTT PENDLEBURY $424,700 MID

AP: BUY — That is a crazy price for a proven KFC SuperCoach star. He’s only that cheap after a few poor scores when he was injured and playing out of position.

TM: BUY - Love this is you’re strapped for cash and need a M8. Pendlebury has looked back to his old self since moving into the middle again and was incredible before the bye against Melbourne.

TP: BUY/WAIT - Looks a bargain, but will the trademark consistency return? I’d consider watching closely for another week.

Scott Pendlebury is available for a bargain price.
Scott Pendlebury is available for a bargain price.

JARRYD LYONS $611,500 MID

AP: BUY — Can he bust out of POD territory? Currently has 8 per cent ownership but that has to get higher based on his reliable top-tier scoring.

TM: BUY - Easily the best KFC SuperCoach player no one talks about. With six scores of 122 or better in his past seven matches he’s a genuine captaincy option.

TP: BUY - Significantly cheaper than any other midfielder averaged 120 points or more because of the 82-point score in Round 11. But that was his only score of less than 100 this season. Great buying this round.

TOBY GREENE $471,100 FWD

AP: PASS — Another good score against the Blues but I couldn’t take the stress of him getting reported or injured again. Will he just get a fine next time?

TM: BUY - As long as you’re up for a bit of risk. He could well be a top-six forward from here but comes with suspension and injury risk attached.

TP: PASS/BUY - I’m not against it, but there are less-risky options.

Toby Greene is a high-risk, high-reward option in KFC SuperCoach.
Toby Greene is a high-risk, high-reward option in KFC SuperCoach.

DAYNE ZORKO $603,800 FWD/MID

AP: PASS — As an owner I’m hoping he picks up where he left off before his untimely suspension but Neale or Dangerfield are better value.

TM: PASS - High price tag and we haven’t seen what role he will play now Lachie Neale is back. Wait a week.

TP: PASS - I’m not just saying it as an owner, but there is better value around - for now.

SHAI BOLTON $524,400 FWD/MID

AP: BUY — Love this guy and wish I could find a spot in my forward line for him. I have Dangerfield just ahead of him, though.

TM: BUY - He dominated in the second half against St Kilda earlier in the year and is a real smoky vie-captain pick this round if you play the loophole.

TP: BUY - This is some of the value I’m talking about. But what you take him over Danger? Not for me.
