AFL Round 15: Key SuperCoach takeouts from GWS Giants v Gold Coast, Western Bulldogs v Richmond
Waiting for Marcus Bontempelli and Sam Darcy’s prices to fall has been the right SuperCoach strategy – until now. Here’s what we learned on super Sunday.
The Dogs are in the eight and the SuperCoach stars in red, white and blue are on fire. Except one.
Meanwhile, a big SuperCoach name was out of the game early with concussion as the Giants staged a comeback win over Gold Coast in the Expansion Cup.
Here’s what fantasy coaches learned on super Sunday.
Recap all today’s action and SuperCoach news in the blog below.
1. MOVE NOW ON DOGS’ BIG TWO
Waiting for Marcus Bontempelli and Sam Darcy to drop in price has been a smart strategy, but they aren’t going to get any cheaper after monster afternoons against Richmond. Marcus Bontempelli (36 disposals, three goals) landed smack on his sky-high 177 Break Even while Darcy (five goals) came within a whisker of his 147 BE. The Bont has dropped almost $90k in the past five weeks and Darcy is $65k cheaper than he was when he was injured, but if you want one, or both, get on now.
2. BAILEY BUST
The smart money was on another big Bailey Dale score, with the defender boasting a five-round average of 119 and Richmond giving up big numbers to attacking defenders. But Dale couldn’t cash in on the Dogs’ dominant performance, with his 23 disposals including a couple of uncharacteristic kicking clangers. A total of 83 points isn’t terrible, but there were 11 teammates ahead of him including rookie star – and former Richmond VFL player – Sam Davidson, who posted the second SuperCoach ton of his AFL career.
3. PRESTIA BUBBLE BURSTS
Almost 7000 coaches took a gamble on Dion Prestia, who entered the game with a Break Even of -3 following scores of 132 and 121 in his two games this year since returning from injury. But the Tigers midfield in general was totally outclassed and Prestia finished with just ive kicks and 14 handballs for 52 SuperCoach points. At least he will still make money – and he didn’t get injured, so that’s a plus.
4. GIANT DISASTER
Our hearts go out to coaches who had the C on Lachie Whitfield. His doubled score is unlikely to feature in best 18 scores this weekend – leaving them without a captain for the week – after his injury curse resurfaced early against Gold Coast. Whitfield played on after a big Ben King bump, but was taken from the field for a HIA. He failed the concussion test and was subbed out before halftime with just four disposals and 16 points – the lowest score of any Giant. With a Break Even of 96, he will be a lot cheaper after the GWS bye next round, but most importantly we just want to see him back on the park.
5. ROOKIES DELIVER
The Giants’ two bubble boys are both due for a big price jump after posting great scores against the Suns. Harry Rowston (Break Even -12) was again a regular feature at centre bounces and finished with 20 disposals, five tackles and 83 points. Ruckman Nick Madden (BE -89) was monstered early by Jarrod Witts but fought back to score 99 from 11 disposals, four intercepts, four clearances and 31 hitouts. He’s set for an even bigger price spike, and owners will be hoping he keeps his spot after the bye when Kieren Briggs returns from injury.
