The Collingwood midfield is packed with SuperCoach studs.
However, that presents a unique challenge … will there be enough points to go around with Brodie Grundy, Adam Treloar, Scott Pendlebury and Dayne Beams all chasing touches.
We’ve analysed the Magpies’ SuperCoach premium picks, mid-price risks and top cash cows ahead of the new season. How many will you be picking?

EXPERT TIPS: THREE RUCK STRATEGIES FOR SUCCESS
PREMIUMS
Brodie Grundy $708,200 RUCK
The case for picking him is simple. He was the No.1 scoring player for 2018 with a 131-point average. In the last five games of the season his average jumped to 151. Need more stats? He dropped under 100 only twice for the season with a lowest score of 95. The outlay is huge but it will be a massive call to start without him.
Adam Treloar $594,200 MID
Who is Collingwood’s No.1 midfielder? It’s a crowded field but we’re backing Treloar to at least maintain the 110 average he set in the first 14 rounds last year before suffering a bizarre double hamstring injury. Has averaged at least 100 for the past five seasons so you can’t go wrong.
Dayne Beams $557,600 MID
How will playing for Collingwood impact Beams’ already excellent scoring? We have a good clue — the last season he played for the Pies in 2014 he averaged 116 points a game including a hot streak late in the season when he didn’t go under 130 for three weeks in a row. He’s only 29 and while injuries are a constant danger he missed only one game last season. Wins the footy and kicks goals. What’s not to like?
Jack Crisp $519,900 DEF
One of the unsung SuperCoach stars of 2018 lifted his average by 13 points a game with more time in the midfield. Doesn’t present the same value this year but if you want a solid 90-plus points a week, he’s a safe option.
Taylor Adams $523,100 MID
There are so many good midfield options it will be hard to find a spot for Adams but if you want a big point of difference you could do a lot worse. His average dropped from 107 to 96 last season but that was mostly was due to an interrupted first half of the year. In the last seven games he averaged 111. Great value.
MID-PRICE RISKS
Jordan De Goey $476,400 FWD
One for the risk-takers. Likely to again spend most of his game time playing deep forward which limits his scoring opportunities but can turn a game in a burst in front of goal or when thrown into the middle. Will have some games where he scores 130-plus, but likely to have some quiet ones too. Still only 22 and should get better, a scary thought.
Jamie Elliott $280,300 FWD
Available at a bargain price after ankle and hamstring problems ruined his 2018 season. Kicked 30-plus goals four seasons in a row and capable of doing it again. Unlikely to be a keeper but should play games and enjoy a healthy price rise. Is he this year’s Allen Christensen?
Darcy Moore $239,400 DEF-FWD
His 2018 season was a write-off with several games ending early due to injury, illustrating the huge risk in picking him this year. But in one of those games, against Richmond, he had 91 points in the bank before the curse struck. If he plays down back, and stays fit, the potential is there. Reportedly dominating pre-season training.
ROOKIES
Isaac Quaynor $153,300 DEF
Highly-rated draftee is a strong chance to get games early bouncing off half-back, where first-year players have shone in SuperCoach in the past. Track his pre-season form.
Will Kelly $117,300 DEF
The son of premiership player Craig Kelly is an athletic tall defender who models his game on Jeremy Howe, a good sign for the future, but not this year. We asked Kelly on draft night if we should pick him in SuperCoach and his answer was: “probably not”.
NO-GO ZONE
Jordan Roughead
Trade acquisitions are always worth a look and Roughead could play a vital role plugging holes in a number of positions this year. But unless he somehow lands the No.1 ruck spot we’ll be looking elsewhere.
Sam Murray
He was a good buy last year but we won’t see Murray again for a while as he deals with the fallout of a positive drug test.
DRAFT SMOKIES
Scott Pendlebury (Midfield)
A more team-first role means he isn’t the super premium he once was, but Pendles still averaged 104 last season.
Steele Sidebottom (Midfield)
Need a super consistent midfielder? Look no further. Will be a genius pick if he picks up where he left off in the last six weeks of 2018.
Jeremy Howe (Defence)
Has averaged 90-plus for the past three seasons. Should be near the top of your defender ratings after the top-shelf stars are gone.
