The Brisbane Lions will wake up Saturday morning just a game and a half outside of the top eight.
Are the grand finalists a chance to race home for another crack at the silverware after their season-saving win over the Western Bulldogs on Friday night.

Marcus Bontempelli finished with 19 disposals and three goals but his impact in the first half was next to none.
Jarrod Berry’s role on Bontempelli was exceptional, keeping the Dogs skipper to just six disposals to half time.
Bontempelli still finished with 99 SuperCoach points, which is 43 more than his break even, but that was off Berry inside 50.
Berry had 23 disposals, five clearances and a goal.
If a heavy tag results in Luke Beveridge pushing Marcus Bontempelli deep forward, opposition clubs must tag him every week.

‘THE BIG O’’ TAKES THE POINTS
Oscar McInerney took the points in the ruck battle, downing Doggies’ big man Tim English.McInerney won the hitouts 30-22 and had 15 contested possessions.
The Lions won the clearances 50-32 after McInerney’s top job against the All-Australian ruckman.
McInerney, who is owned by only 1300 SuperCoaches, had 131 points to English’s 88.

Eric Hipwood and Lachie Neale have produced some of their best footy to steer Brisbane to a season-saving win.
Hipwood kicked six goals while Neale had 38 disposals and kicked two goals.
The win propels the Lions back in finals contention, now just six points outside of the top eight.
Jarrod Berry did a fantastic job tagging Marcus Bontempelli in the first half but the Bulldogs’ champion went forward in the second half and still managed to finish with three goals.
10:13: CAREER-BEST FOR ERIC
Eric Hipwood has equalled his career best haul of goals with six majors.
He kicked four in the first half and his fifth early in the third.
Hipwood has 138 SuperCoach points in what has been one of his best matches ever.

10:04: KHAMIS IN
The Western Bulldogs have activated sub Buku Khamis at the expense of Rory Lobb.
Lobb had a very quiet night, not recording a disposal until halfway through the second term.
9:57: ANSWERTH IN
Brisbane Lions’ sub Noah Answerth has been added into the game.
Conor McKenna has been the player subbed out.

Lachie Neale is on track for 40 disposals, and now he’s got two goals.
He has 33 possessions and 114 SuperCoach points with 18 minutes of playing time left.
The Lions are back out to a 32-point lead.
9:50: WEST GETS FIRST
Rhylee West has got the Western Bulldogs off to a perfect start, kicking his side within 26 points a minute into the final term.
There’s not much room for error for the Bulldogs, but West has got them out of the three-quarter time blocks well.
9:43: 3QT — THE DOGS WILL NEED A MIRACLE
The Western Bulldogs will need a miracle to overcome the Brisbane Lions in the final quarter, after the Lions extended their half-time lead.
Eric Hipwood has five goals while Lachie Neale is on track to have 40 possessions.
Oscar McInerney is the other Lion who has already cracked the SuperCoach ton while Liam Jones has been among the Doggies’ best.
Neither side has used their substitutes yet, who are Buku Khamis and Noah Answerth.

Joe Daniher has gifted Kai Lohmann with a goal from point-blank range with a handball over the top.
Daniher would have gone back and kicked his third goal but decided to get the young small in the game.
Lachie Neale is starting to get really busy in the Lions midfield.

The Western Bulldogs fans are going nuts at Marvel Stadium as the free kick count is heavily in favour of the Lions.
The Bulldogs are down in that category as well as the scoreboard, 6-20.
The Dogs are hanging in this match, trailing by 28 points.

9:28: QUIET CALEB
Caleb Daniel has had little impact for the Western Bulldogs tonight.
Daniel, who found himself in the VFL earlier this season, has had just six disposals.
The 2020 best-and-fairest winner, alongside Rhylee West and Laitham Vandermeer, is in danger of being subbed out for Buku Khamis in this second half.
9:22: BONT BREAKS THROUGH
Amid a quiet night by his standards, Marcus Bontempelli has kicked his second goal.
Jarrod Berry has followed Bont all night but the five-time All-Australian has hit the scoreboard.
It’s the seventh time this year Bontempelli has kicked multiple goals.
He has moved to 49 SuperCoach points, which is only eight shy of his break even.

Eric Hipwood is staring at a massive haul of goals after kicking his fifth just a minute into the third quarter.
Hipwood’s had a quiet year to date but can really cash in tonight.
Hipwood has rushed to 92 SuperCoach points.
The Western Bulldogs are his favourite opponent with a career average of 73 against the Dogs.
Matthew Richardson said “it’s one of the better games I have seen him pay” on Channel 7’s coverage.

Jarrod Berry has the points at half time in his run-with role on Marcus Bontempelli.

8:53: HT — MCCLUGGAGE ICES FIRST-HALF CAKE FOR LIONS
A beautiful passage of play from Hugh McCluggage has swung an almost certain Western Bulldogs goal to a major at the Lions’ end.
It happened with less than a minute left in the half and finished with Eric Hipwood, who enters the main break with four goals.
Lachie Neale then managed to snap a goal out of a stoppage with a split second left on the clock.
The Dogs trail by 33 points now.

James O’Donnell has kicked a much-needed goal for the Western Bulldogs.
Playing forward tonight, O’Donnell made a small angle look elementary with a clever snap.
He had the chance to kick another one just seconds later but missed.
Oscar McInerney has the most SuperCoach points on the ground with 72.
8:40: ALARM BELLS FOR BEVO
This is getting out of hand for the Western Bulldogs.
The Lions have kicked five unanswered goals, the latest from Eric Hipwood, to scoot out to a 27-point lead.

The Western Bulldogs need more out Rory Lobb.
Lobb, who is the second key forward alongside Jamarra Ugle-Hagan, hasn’t had a disposal.
With Harris Andrews as his direct opponent, the Dogs need more out of him.
Other key forwards Ugle-Hagan, Joe Daniher and Eric Hipwood have all kicked multiple goals.

8:15: QT — LIONS TAKE LIGHT LEAD
The Brisbane Lions lead the Western Bulldogs by just three points after a quarter that had six lead changes.
Marcus Bontempelli was immediately tagged by Jarrod Berry, who has done a tremendous job on the five-time All-Australian.
Bontempelli has kicked a goal but has only had three disposals while Berry has had eight disposals and two centre bounce clearances.
Alex Keath has been in the rooms for almost 20 minutes with an unidentified injury.

Western Bulldogs defender James O’Donnell has gone to stop the influence of Brisbane Lions’ co-captain Harris Andrews.
The Bulldogs are lighter on size inside 50 tonight with no Aaron Naughton or Sam Darcy.

Marcus Bontempelli has worked forward and put an early dagger in Jarrod Berry’s hard tag.
Berry went to the beach while Bontempelli rested forward and he was too clever for the Lions’ defence, kicking his side’s third goal.

7:57: LIBBA WANTS BONT FREE
He’s a team-man, Tom Liberatore, looking to block for Marcus Bontempelli whenever he can.
Liberatore is going at Jarrod Berry, who is running a hard tag on Bontempelli.
Liberatore is going into bat for his skipper at every opportunity — it’s must-watch.
7:51: GOOD SIGNS FOR ‘MARRA
Jamarra Ugle-Hagan looks up to the task of owning the Western Bulldogs forward line, with two contested marks and a goal early in the first quarter.
He averages two contested marks per game this season and has already reached that.
Ugle-Hagan leads the ground for SuperCoach points with 22.
7:41: BERRY TO BONT
The Brisbane Lions have sent Jarrod Berry to Marcus Bontempelli in a run-with role.
Luke Hodge called Berry a “natural ball hunter” on the Channel 7 coverage while Matthew Richardson called it “an old-school, hard tag”.
After Adam Treloar kicked the Dogs’ first goal of the night, Tom Liberatore came hard at Berry and gave away a free kick from the centre of the ground.
7:10: EXPECT THE SAME FROM LIBBA
Western Bulldogs coach Luke Beveridge has quashed claims Tom Liberatore would change his hard-nosed role after his recent concussions.
Asked by Fox Footy’s Jordan Lewis pre-game if he had told Liberatore to change his approach, Beveridge said it was easier said than done.
“Probably not, Lewy, it makes sense doesn't it because you want him to thrive in the game but, as you know, Tom plays a certain way,” he said.
“It’s really difficult to tell a bull not to run at the red rag,”
6:50: STOP THE RUNS, SAYS FAGAN
Brisbane Lions coach Chris Fagan says his side must be better at stopping opponent's momentum if they are to make a late dash at the finals.
Speaking to Fox Footy pre-game, Fagan pointed out the Lions’ weakness while also noting how they have been playing well without capitalising on the scoreboard.
“There’s just been moments in games where teams have been able to string a few together,” he said.
“I want them to understand they’ve been playing some pretty good football.”
Fagan said the Lions would “put some work into Marcus Bontempelli” tonight.
Buku Khamis and Noah Answerth will be the Western Bulldogs and Brisbane Lions’ respective substitutes.
