AFL 2024: Live updates, SuperCoach scores for round 12 Sunday action
SuperCoach star Nic Martin has failed to hit 100 points again. What’s going in in the Bombers defence plus the other SuperCoach lessons from two surprising Super Sunday results.
SuperCoach
Don't miss out on the headlines from SuperCoach. Followed categories will be added to My News.
Fremantle has demolished Melbourne by 15 goals and Gold Coast is in the top eight after a stunning last day of round 12.
The Demons kicked the first two goals of the game in Alice Springs but after that it was all the Dockers. Jye Amiss kicked four goals and Josh Treacy, Luke Jackson, Michael Walters booted three each.
Gold Coast held on in a thriller against Essendon to knock Collingwood out of eighth spot.
Here were the big SuperCoach takeaways – scroll down to recap all the action
MARTIN SLUMP
If you traded in Jordan Ridley this week, well played. He scored a team-high 114 SuperCoach points against the Suns. But he might be having a negative impact on one of his Bombers teammates. Nic Martin has scored 97 and 80 in his two games with Ridley in the team as the star defender mops up down back, taking away some of Martin’s scoring avenues. A return to form of Mason Redman may also be a factor – he has a four-game average of 109.3 compared to Martin’s 90 average in the same period, following a run of six scores over 100. Martin’s finishing isn’t helping his cause, collecting 24 disposals on Sunday at just 67 per cent efficiency including one horror miss in front of goal (scroll down to see the video).
ANDERSON ROLLERCOASTER
Noah Anderson has one of the highest scoring ceilings in SuperCoach - if you don’t mind riding the lower weeks in between. His 147 point game against Essendon was his fourth over 140 for the year, equal with Max Gawn. Anderson also has scores of 50, 55 (last week), 70 and 89 this season. Put him on the trade target list for after Gold Coast’s round 14 bye – if you can handle the ride.
FREO’S BIG WIN
Who says Luke Jackson and Sean Darcy can’t play in the same team? The Dockers due double-teamed Max Gawn in Alice Springs and while Melbourne narrowly won the hitouts 35-32, Justin Longmuir would be rapt with the result after Max’s immense return against St Kilda last week. Darcy finished with 93 SuperCoach points and Jackson booted 3.2 to finish on 98, while Gawn battled to 95 after kicking the first goal of the game.
6:42pm: BREAKING MRO NEWS
Harley Reid has been offered a two match ban for his dangerous tackle on Saint Darcy Wilson. Huge news!
6:40pm: SUNS WIN
Gold Coast hangs on - that was a cracking game.
Noah Anderson was huge while Jordan Ridley proved a smart trade in with Essendon’s top score.
6:34pm: TOUK SEALS IT
It hasn’t been Touk Miller’s day but he kicks the sealer – surely – after winning a holding the ball free kick against Jy Caldwell – and 50m when Jayden Laverde gives the ball back to the wrong player.
Suns by 11 with one minute left.
6:31pm: WE’RE GOING DOWN TO THE WIRE
Gold Coast looked home but Matt Guelfi has threaded one after a free kick against Bodhi Uwland and there is five points in it with 2:30 on the clock.
6:12pm: ESSENDON INJURY SCARE
Kyle Langford has headed down into the rooms.
Frantic finish coming up – scores are level with 12 minutes to go.
Gold Coast has activated its sub – David Swallow is on for Bailey Humphrey.
6:10pm: BOMBERS BACK IN IT
Holding the ball has been in the spotlight and two calls have worked in Essendon’s favour for the last two goals.
First what looked like a certain holding the ball was called play on and Nic Cox swooped for a goal.
Then Sam Durham looked like he was gone for all money but the umpire ruled he hadn’t played on and paid a 50m penalty to bring him to point-blank range.
Did Durham stay or go? Noah Anderson concedes a 50-metre penalty and we're all tied up!

5:58pm: THREE QUARTER-TIME
Set up for a big finish to the first bye round.
Noah Anderson is having one of his big games while Sam Flanders and Alex Sexton are bringing it home for their SuperCoach owners.
It’s not such good news if you have Touk Miller. He has 18 touches for the game and six turnovers for just 43 points at the last change.
5:40pm: HOW DID MARTIN MISS
Nic Martin runs to 15m and slams it ... into the goalpost.
Luckily for Essendon Jye Caldwell showed better composure to nail a banana shot from 35m out.
Zach Merrett is everywhere this quarter, jumping to 83 SuperCoach points.
Nic Martin squanders a golden opportunity for the Bombers to reduce their deficit! ð«£

5.30pm: BACK FOR THE SECOND HALF
Had a few technical issues but we’re back for the second half.
Young Bombers ruck Nick Bryan has been fantastic after he was a late in, replacing Todd Goldstein.
Sam Clohesy is on 28, while Will Graham is on just 14! Thank god for Best 18!
Ben King kicks the opening goal of the term, but Ben Ainsworth kicks one out on the full to follow up.
4:50pm: MARTIN MISSING
After leading the game with 11 disposals in the first quarter Nic Martin is yet to touch the footy in the second term.
Mason Redman has found form and leads the game with 58 SuperCoach points along with Peter Wright.
Mac Andrew and Noah Anderson both have 54 for the Suns, while Sam Flanders has jumped to 41 after shaking off an ankle injury.
4:46pm: SUNS FANS BOO WRIGHT
They are learning up on the Gold Coast – Peter Wright just copped a chorus of boos after taking a mark deep in defence.
Wright played 66 games for the Suns before being traded to Essendon at the end of the 2021 season for a future fourth-round draft pick, which Gold Coast never used.
4:40pm: SAM FLANDERS UPDATE
Flanders is out there for the second quarter after having his ankle strapped up. Flanders limped from the field late in the first term in a big scare for his 100,076 SuperCoach owners.
4:35pm: QUARTER-TIME
A strong start by Essendon’s half-back line with Nick Martin winning a game-high 11 disposals in the first term and Jordan Ridley picking up seven of his own.
4:25pm: FLANDERS INJURY SCARE
SuperCoach alert – Sam Flanders has limped off the ground after being crunched in a big tackle.
We’ll keep a close watch on one of the best SuperCoach performers of 2024.
4:08pm: WRIGHT’S REVENGE
We’re away at People First Stadium and the first goal of Gold Coast v Essendon goes to former Sun Peter Wright.
Jordan Ridley has made a strong start with a one-handed intercept mark.
3:45pm: WE’RE DONE
A late goal from Tom McDonald saves the Dees from a three-figure margin but that was just awful.
The double act of Luke Ryan and Jordan Clark get it done again in SuperCoach, although Clark limped off with just 10 seconds left.
They were twoof seven Dockers over 100, while just one Demon – Jack Viney – cracked the ton.
Max Gawn came close with 91 points.
3:27pm: 99 POINTS!
Nat Fyfe kicks his first and the score is 140-41 with seven minutes left.
Crazy.
3:15pm: LATE OUT FOR BOMBERS
Todd Goldstein (managed) is out of Essendon’s team for the final game of the round, replaced by Nick Bryan.
He will ruck against young Sun Ned Moyle.
Elijah Tsatas is Essendon’s sub. There are no late changes for the Suns, with David Swallow starting as the sub.
3:05pm: THREE QUARTER-TIME
Luke Ryan slowed up a bit that quarter – not surprising when the Dees had only a handful of inside-50s and have just 5.4 for the game.
One-way traffic continues and some big questions for Melbourne.
2:50pm: SERONG STUNNER
Caleb Serong has been relatively subdued today but he steps up to kick an absolute beauty from deep in the pocket with a perfect curling banana kick.
His first goal of the season – and the Dockers’ 16th of the game – lifts him to 68 SuperCoach points.
Melbourne has just four goals for the afternoon and no spark whatsoever.
The margin is 79 points and keeps getting bigger!
What a snag from Caleb Serong! ð¤©#AFLDeesFreopic.twitter.com/uglRHLmPX9

2:42pm: FREO ON FIRE
Anthony Hudson declared “it is an onslaught” as Sean Darcy then Jye Amiss add more goals to take the Fremantle lead to 63 points.
Melbourne could lose its spot in the top eight tonight unless they can perform a miracle here.
Who saw this coming?!
Geez this has been appalling from the Demons.
— Jude Bolton (@Jude_Bolton) June 2, 2024
Havenât been able to cope with the fierce pressure from Freo.
Terrific from the Dockers, particularly in transition. ðð¼ #AFLDeesFreo

2:30pm: EARLY DEMONS SUB
Lachie Hunter has been subbed out at halftime with a calf injury. Taj Woewodin is into the game.
Christan Petracca opened the scoring for the second half but Fremantle answered straight away through Michael Frederick.
2:12pm: HALFTIME
Wow. An absolutely dominant second quarter from Fremantle, kicking 7.3 to Melbourne’s one straight goal to open up a huge halftime lead.
Luke Ryan is controlling things from half-back with a game-high 16 disposals, while Christian Salem (15) leads the way for Melbourne.
Christian Petracca is playing mostly forward and has had little impact while Clayton Oliver has just eight touches to the main break.
After kicking the first goal of the game Max Gawn has 41 SuperCoach points.
2:00pm: JYE FLIES HIGH
How’s this grab from Jye Amiss?!
1:50pm: OLIVER STRIKES
Melbourne went more than a quarter without a goal but Clayton Oliver has answered the call with a great running goal.
He started the play with a tackle on the wing then was on the receiving end of a chain of handballs that included Max Gawn and Jack Viney to slot it from 40m.
It’s been a tough day at the office for Clarry so far with just six disposals and 22 SuperCoach points.
1:44pm: SALEM A SUPERCOACH STEAL
Roughly 850 coaches spied a bye bargain when they traded in Christian Salem last week at $345,000 – and it looks like a great move so far.
Salem scored 121 points against St Kilda last week and he leads the Demons today with 40.
Luke Ryan is an unstoppable force, leading all scorers in Alice Springs with 54 points early in the second term.
1:37pm: QUARTER-TIME
Luke Ryan has Max Gawn’s overall SuperCoach lead in his sights.
Gawn has 26 points at the first change and bye round bargain Christian Salem has been good early and sits on 25 points.
Caleb Serong has 21 but just nine points for Luke Jackson who has been playing mostly forward so far.
1:28pm: AIR JORDAN
Jordan Clark kicks his first goal of the season, and it is an absolute ripper.
The Dockers are all over the Dees now, and Clark has been an unsung SuperCoach hero in 2024, averaging 106 points a game in a lethal partnership with Luke Ryan across half-back for Fremantle.
Jordan Clark kicks an absolute beauty ð«¡#AFLDeesFreopic.twitter.com/KOgP9M6gKg

1:15pm: GAWN, RYAN DUKE IT OUT
Gawn and Luke Ryan are leading the SuperCoach scoring for their respective teams – no surprise given their seasons so far.
Ryan has four marks and five kicks – all effective – for 25 points.
Gawn has four disposals (three on target) and a goal, plus a bunch of hitouts – for 22 points.
Melbourne kicked the first two goals of the game but Fremantle has responded with the next four.

1:05pm: MAX IS IN TOWN
It’s a sunny 17 degrees in Alice Springs and we are underway following a traditional welcome to country by the Arrernte People.
Max Gawn wins the first hitout of the game against Sean Darcy, then goes forward to take a mark and kick the first goal of the game. Good start by Max!
Nat Fyfe is nowhere to be seen – he headed down to the rooms moments before the bounce. There doesn’t seem to be any alarm in the Dockers camp, maybe he forgot his mouthguard?
12:15pm: FINAL TEAMS ARE IN
There are no late changes for either team for the first Snday game.
Taj Woewodin is Melbourne’s sub. Corey Wagner has the job for Fremantle.
