Seven lashed for WAGS-on-wheels after blue carpet's downsized

IT is hailed as football's night of nights, but poor planning caused a bottleneck of frocked-up WAGs on the blue carpet.

IT is hailed as football's night of nights, but poor planning caused a bottleneck of frocked-up WAGs on the blue carpet before the Brownlow Awards even started last night.

It is understood Channel 7, broadcast partner to the AFL, made a request to downsize the glamorous blue carpet and cut off media access inside the casino, causing a traffic jam of WAGs and AFL players who had to brave the elements outside.

Instead of strutting their stuff down the lengthy sapphire rug, the dolled-up wives and girlfriends, many in sky-scraper, designer stilettos and figure-hugging floor-length gowns were squashed like sardines as they tried to make their grand entrance on the casino driveway.

As they hobbled down the bitumen many confused looking first-time WAGs worried if they were in the right place.

Channel 7 also received a lashing for its "WAG rotisserie" on the blue carpet.

Several top faces slammed the rotating wheel, on which high-profile partners were made to stand to model their dresses.

"They look like stuffed chickens, said one. "It's the WAGon wheel" said another.

Gorgeous Carlton girl Lauren Tscharke said she was thrilled to be on the arm of Bryce Gibbs. Looking stunning in hardly known Shepparton designer Kadime Sulegan, Tscharke said she would miss the end-of-season trip as she was playing bridesmaid at her sister's wedding.

"But they are all planning a bus trip to Vegas so fine by me," she laughed.

Geelong's Jimmy Bartel - who looked dashing as ever with stunning girlfriend Nadia Coppolino - took the mantle of being voted "football's sexiest player" in a Herald Sun survey in his stride.
