Michael Voss has found the “sweet spot” with his Carlton players and the Blues’ flying start to the season is no surprise to Jack Watts.
The former Melbourne and Port Adelaide forward worked closely with Voss in his time as a Power assistant coach and said he has already created a culture that ticked the crucial boxes of belief, clarity of purpose and enjoyment.
“I just know what he’s going to be creating in that club environment, very positive, support each other and a happy environment to play footy and be yourself,” he said on KFC SuperFooty TV, the weekly footy show streamed exclusively at heraldsun.com.au.

Watts also made a brutal admission about his time at the top level.
“You just free the mind and that’s the thing with AFL footy. Looking back on my career I can count on one hand the patches when I was confident, playing stress-free footy and not worrying about getting hammered by the coaches or by the supporters – if you can just get in that sweet spot, that’s it.”
The panel also discussed Dustin Martin’s absence from Richmond as he deals with the death of his father Shane.
“He loves footy and he loves Richmond and he loves his club and personally I see him coming back and playing, but it’s his decision,” Watts said.
Herald Sun reporter Jay Clark said Martin was contracted to the end of 2024 so there was no rush for him to return.
“Richmond just need to be as patient as they can be and if that’s months, that’s totally fine,” Clark said.
“You hope if Richmond’s form can build over the next few months ... there’s that September carrot, which could be a bit of a motivator, but we’re all thinking of Dustin Martin.”
Also on the agenda this week were Lance Franklin’s 1000 goals and the crowd chaos that followed, fears for Paddy McCartin, where Joel Selwood ranks in Geelong’s history, and the panel gave all their tips for round 3.
