Pure Footy: David King and Daniel Hoyne crunch the numbers on the game’s biggest trends

The Western Bulldogs got a bargain in Adam Treloar. On this week’s episode of Pure Footy, David King and Daniel Hoyne look at his start to the season.

Any remaining questions over Adam Treloar’s ability to fit into an already star-studded midfield at the Western Bulldogs disappeared on Good Friday.

The Ex-Magpie, who was controversially traded in the off-season, produced his most damaging game in years, winning 27 disposals and kicking three goals.

In his 94 games with the Magpies, Treloar booted three goals in a game only once.

But what has been behind the seemingly easy transition from Magpie to Bulldog?

On this week’s episode of Pure Footy, stats gurus David King and Daniel Hoyne broke down how life at the Dogs was agreeing with the 28-year-old.

“Look at Adam Treloar. … He is now becoming an uncontested possession player with maximum damage,” King said.

“He was a great contested possession player at the Pies and he was almost (the) first magnet moved into the centre bounce opportunity time after time.

“He was also a hit to player (out of the ruck). (Taylor) Adams and Adam Treloar were one and two at the Pies whereas now, he’s behind Macrae, Libba and Bont.

“He is almost the last resort as a target if those other guys aren’t there.”

While his disposal average has dipped from 26.9 in 2020 to 23.3 this year, Treloar is making the possessions he does get count.

“It is having a magnificent impact on Adam’s game, particularly by foot,” King said.

“We have seen his kick rating … has gone through the roof.

“From being in the minus, minus eight per cent … to now sitting plus three per cent.

“So what was a flaw is gone. They’ve got a better product now (in Treloar) than what the Collingwood version was, which was already an elite product.”

Also on this week’s episode the guys discuss if we should be worried about the Tigers, what is going on at the Swans and plenty more.
