KFC SuperFooty TV: Lauren Wood, Jay Clark and Jack Watts look at the big issues in the AFL before round 12

Carlton recruiters have copped it for some recent misses but they hit the bullseye twice last trade period. Are the new Blues the pick of the class of 2022?

Former No.1 draft pick Jack Watts says the influence of Carlton coach Michael Voss is clear in the club’s standout 2022 recruits.

Adam Cerra was in the spotlight for much of 2021 as clubs pitched for his services before he joined Carlton in the trade period, while George Hewett almost slipped under the radar as a free agent.

But the former Swan has been a key to the Blues’ 8-3 start to the year, averaging 30 disposals, seven clearances and 118 SuperCoach points a game.

“They’ve not only brought in the coach of the year, Michael Voss ... they’ve also brought in George Hewett and Adam Cerra who have had great seasons for them and they’re sitting in the top four,” Watts said on a new episode of KFC SuperFooty TV.

“Adam Cerra just works his arse off and Hewett is as hard as they come, so I’m guessing Vossy had some sort of influence in that.”

Herald Sun reporter Jay Clark said the Blues had copped some heat for recruiting Zac Williams and Mitch McGovern but deserved a pat on the back.

“They’ve been on the end of it in terms of their recruiting but then they have absolutely nailed it.

“Hewett is underrated for his hardness and he’s such a great team man, he’s the Robin to (Patrick Cripps’) Batman.”

Clark also nominated Cat Tyson Stengle as a nominee for recruit of the season.

“The guy was on the scrap heap, punted from two clubs ... now he’s kicking three goals a week for Geelong.

“The Geelong faithful – and it can be library quiet down at the Cattery at times ... he gets it, and the crowd comes alive.

“He’s a guy who has turned his whole life around, let’s celebrate that.”

Also on this week’s show, Watts, Clark and Lauren Wood examine Dyson Heppell’s heated chat with teammate Darcy Parish, preview the mid-season draft and tip all the winners for round 12.
