Is this Mason Cox’s last chance?

Long-term injuries to ruck star Brodie Grundy and key forward recruit Nathan Kreuger on ANZAC Day have opened the door for the maligned forward, handing him a golden opportunity to show his worth.

Cox has been dropped twice this season and had a promising return in the VFL on the weekend after his latest demotion, tallying 16 disposals, 110 ranking points and booting a goal.

While KFC SuperFooty TV host Lauren Wood pointed out that Collingwood coach Craig McCrae was noncommittal on Cox post-game, panellist Sam Landsberger said he would be “staggered” if he doesn’t face the Suns.

He believes it is a great opportunity for the American Pie in the final year of his contract.

“I think he’ll certainly play against Gold Coast, I would be staggered if he doesn’t come into that 22,” Landsberger said.

“I think (Darcy) Cameron goes into the ruck and Mason Cox goes straight to full forward.

“It is probably his last chance. He’s on a one-year contract so he’s probably got a 12 week opportunity to show Collingwood or another club that he’s absolutely got 12 months left in him.”

Wood, Landsberger and former Melbourne and Port Adelaide star Jack Watts discuss that, the impact of Marc Pittonet’s injury on Carlton, Paddy McCartin’s concussion blow and more.
