Herald Sun Footy Podcast: Lauren Wood, Jon Anderson, Scott Gullan and Michael Warner review the big footy issues

There was plenty of positivity around Carlton heading into 2020. But after two games, has all that evaporated? One member of the Herald Sun Footy Podcast team thinks the Blues are in for even more pain.

There was plenty of positivity around Carlton heading into the 2020 season.

But after just two weeks, Jon Anderson has seen enough to know the Blues are closer to the wooden spoon than to finals.

Speaking on this week’s Herald Sun Footy Podcast, Ando had a number of Blues in his sights, questioning why Eddie Betts and Kade Simpson were still at the club.

He was also critical of forward Mitch McGovern, who has failed to deliver since coming to Carlton on big money from Adelaide.

“I don’t think Carlton or Melbourne are going to be near the eight. I don’t think they will be. I think Carlton are more likely to be challenging for the wooden spoon. I think that is where they sit,” Anderson said.

Also on this week’s show, Lauren Wood, Scott Gullan and Michael Warner debated what has gone wrong at the Bulldogs.

It has now been three years since coach Luke Beveridge delivered the red, white and blue a flag and is some of the shine starting to wear off for the Doggies faithful?

“Luke Beveridge will be etched into history as one of the greatest figures in the history of the Western Bulldogs/Footscray Football Club,” Ando said.

“He has copped all the credits as he richly deserves for 2016. Since then I think it is 31 wins from something like 67 or 68 games. That’s ordinary, poor to fair at best.

“Luke Beveridge has overseen that and it is time that he is looked at a bit more closely as to what’s happening.”

The Bulldogs extended Beveridge’s coaching contract last year.

“Something seems to be a miss at the kennel,” Warner said.

“Every now and then they show some flair but not consistently. Not like that 2016, which is a long time ago now.”

Also on this week’s episode, the guys looked at Gold Coast’s huge upset win, why North are the real deal and Ando gives his best Sydney/South Melbourne team of the past 50 years.
