Just five players remain on the restricted free agent market as the AFL revealed 109 others are due to become unrestricted free agents at the end of the season.
Only Ed Richards (Western Bulldogs), Oscar Allen (West Coast), James Worpel (Hawthorn), Tom De Koning (Carlton) and Brandon Starcevich (Brisbane Lions) will be RFAs this year.
Players qualify as RFAs when they have been at a club for eight or more seasons and are not in the top quarter of money earners at that club.
If they are offered a deal from a rival, their home club can match that, which often forces a trade.
The AFL released its list on Monday.
Essendon ruck Sam Draper is an UFA, which means the player can walk to the club of their choice with no option to match, likely having not qualified in the top 25 per cent of earners at Essendon.
Gold Coast’s Sam Collins was included in the UFA list, but he signed a three year deal at the club before the season began.
Tiger spearhead Tom Lynch will be a UFA, as will Bulldog captain Marcus Bontempelli and vice-captain Tom Liberatore.
Brayden Maynard is a UFA as he weighs up interest from North Melbourne, as are Magpies veterans like Scott Pendlebury, Steele Sidebottom, Jeremy Howe, Brodie Mihocek and Jamie Elliott.
This masthead as reported that Richards is in positive talks on a new deal with the Dogs, as is Worpel with the Hawks.
De Koning has put his talks with the Blues on hold as he weighs up a lucrative offer from St Kilda.
