Richmond has ended Sydney Stack’s long exile from senior football by selecting him for his first game since Round 13 last year.

Coach Damien Hardwick nominated 21-year-old Stack’s new-found maturity as the reason he was brought into the struggling ninth-placed Tigers line-up for Sunday’s clash against Collingwood.

Stack has spent a long time out of top-flight football.

He was suspended for 10 matches last year for breaching AFL COVID-19 protocols in Queensland after he and teammate Callum Coleman-Jones were arrested outside a Gold Coast strip club following a brawl.

Stack then spent time in a Perth jail after returning to Western Australia for his grandfather’s funeral and breaking the state’s coronavirus rules.

“Everyone matures and everyone grows up at stages,” Hardwick said.

“He can play the game, but what we’ve been really impressed with is how he’s gone about his life off field.

“He’s started to get some things in place and started to grow up.”

Richmond also recalled Daniel Rioli, Rhyan Mansell and Ryan Garthwaite.

The Tigers dropped Jack Ross and have lost four through injury: Bachar Houli, Callum Coleman-Jones, Nick Vlastuin and Shane Edwards.

The Magpies dropped Richmond nemesis Mason Cox who sank the Tigers in a 2018 preliminary final with five goals.

Interim coach Robert Harvey also axed youngster Caleb Poulter, while losing Josh Daicos (finger) to injury. The Magpies brought in Will Kelly, Callum Brown and Oliver Henry.

The Bulldogs announced on Thursday they were handing No. 1 draft pick Jamarra Ugle-Hagan his first game and have also recalled Ed Richards.

Aaron Naughton’s concussion opened the door for Ugle-Hagan, while the Dogs dropped Toby McLean and medical sub Patrick Lipinski.
