Geelong’s on-field season has come to a close but the Cats are again taking one last opportunity to shine, with players today going fancy dress for the club’s ‘Wacky Wednesday’ get-together.

The Cats are widely considered the best in the business when it comes to celebrating their year, the now-annual dress-up a highlight for footy fans as players poke fun at the latest news, pop culture and sometimes themselves.

There will be a slightly sour taste to the beverages consumed today, with Chris Scott’s team falling at the second-last hurdle, losing to Richmond in Friday night’s preliminary final.

Among the early stars were Patrick Dangerfield and defender Mark Blicavs.

Dangerfield appeared to have a crack back at commentator Kane Cornes’ short-lived career as a fireman, by donning a Port Adelaide jumper underneath his outfit.

Not for the first time, Cornes earlier this year took aim at Dangerfield, saying the Cats champ could exaggerate injuries and his limping after a win over the Western Bulldogs had been part of ‘The Danger Show’.

Blicavs, fined $1000 for staging in his side’s round 19 win over Sydney, today took the opportunity to poke fun at himself by posting a picture of himself on Instagram.

“And the Academy Award for best onscreen dive goes to …” Blicavs wrote.

An expectant, nervous Blicavs also posted a pic of himself clutching the award.
