An intrepid AFL journo has outed himself as the man at the centre of a failed bid to catch Magie star Jordan De Goey before he jetted to Europe — and revealed his girlfriend’s unlikely role.

Fox Footy journalist Tom Morris has outed himself as the media man at the centre of a failed airport stake-out.

The Herald Sun reported on Friday that an unnamed “intrepid football scribe” had headed to Melbourne Airport last Sunday night hoping to catch Collingwood star Jordan De Goey as he jetted to Germany to see a hamstring specialist.

Morris fessed up on 3AW radio today, and revealed the story took a hilarious twist when his girlfriend decided to accompany him.

“On Fox Sports we broke the story that Jordan de Goey is going to Germany and I thought that I’m going to go the airport,” Morris explained.

“He’s got a 9:15pm flight to Dubai and then to Munich ... I said to my girlfriend that I’m doing this tonight and she said ‘I want to come, it’s an adventure’.”

They hadn’t gone far before mission hit an unexpected hurdle.

“On the way there she said, ‘Who’s Jordan De Goey?’, so I had to show her Google Images,” Morris said.

“She waited where you put the luggage in, and I waited near the international terminal, and we waited for two-and-a-half-hours and he must have gone through the back entrance and we didn’t see him.

“All she wanted on the way back was a McFlurry from McDonald’s.”
