FORMER Victorianan cricketer Alex Keath has a second shot at his AFL dream after being recruited by the Adelaide Crows.
Keath was part of the original Gold Coast Suns squad but turned his back on football to pursue a cricket career.
The 23-year-old all-rounder played seven first-class games for Victoria and represented the Melbourne Stars in Twenty20 action before recently crossing to SA to play cricket for Prospect, in an effort to reignite his career.
At 196cm, he was a key forward project at the Murray Bushrangers.
“Alex has a strong background in football and he is someone we have tracked closely,” Crows football boss David Noble said.
“Obviously, he has been out of the system for several years but he was an elite junior and that’s a good starting point.”
Adelaide has signed Keath as a category B rookie.
The Category B scheme allows AFL clubs to sign athletes from other sports who have not been registered in an Australian Football competition for three years.
Keath joins former Australian basketballer Hugh Greenwood as a Category B rookie for Adelaide.
The Crows also announced on Wednesday they had delisted midfielder Matthew Wright.
