A stoush over the services of Essendon great Matthew Lloyd has broken out between rival radio stations.
Lloyd won’t be taking up his regular spot on AFL Trade Radio next month after Nine Radio blocked it because of a conflict with SEN who produces the program for the AFL website.
There is no love lost between the two networks with the move surprising Lloyd who has done the ‘Early Trade’ shift alongside Kane Cornes for the past five years.
Losing Lloyd hasn’t been the only setback for SEN boss Craig Hutchison with one of his former protégés, Channel 7’s Mitch Cleary, also a scratching.
It’s understood Cleary was approached but the soon to be appointed new chief football reporter was unable to commit due to his workload at Seven.
The development with Lloyd’s situation was a shock given he already has a relationship with AFL.com.au where he appears each Monday on the Access All Areas program.
But Nine Radio has pulled rank, preferring the Bombers premiership star remain exclusive to them in his role as an expert on 3AW’s football coverage.
Former Western Bulldogs superstar Brad Johnson is replacing Lloyd in the AFL Trade Radio seat.
There has been tension between the two stations for some time with SEN luring over long-time 3AW host Gerard Healy and his popular Sportsday program last year.
The move came after a change to the Nine radio landscape, where the 3AW show was rebranded as Wide World of Sports.
