JACK Steele is officially a St Kilda player after a deal between the Saints and the Giants was struck on Friday morning.

In exchange for Steele, St Kilda has agreed to send Greater Western Sydney its 2017 second round draft pick.

St Kilda chief operating officer and general counsel Ameet Bains said that the talented midfielder is a welcome addition to the Saints line up.

“We’re thrilled to have Jack join the Saints and with his ability to play both in the midfield and forward, we think he’ll strongly complement our young, emerging list while filling a key need,” Bains said.

“Jack’s had some strong performances and at only 20-years-old we think he has a lot of potential to continue to develop and be a quality player for the club.”

Steele, 20, was drafted with pick 24 in the 2014 national draft.

In his two years at the Giants, the tough midfielder has played 17 games and kicked nine goals.

He was the first GWS player to be drafted through the club’s academy in Canberra.

Giants general manager of football Wayne Campbell said the club was satisfied with the deal.

“While disappointed that Jack is moving on, this trade puts us in a strong position for the 2017 draft to continue to bring in the best talent to our football club.

“We thank Jack for his contribution over the past two seasons and wish him all the best for the rest of his career.”

With the Steele deal done, the Saints can now focus on securing a trade for Western Bulldogs midfielder Koby Stevens.

Stevens requested a move to St Kilda on Thursday after four seasons at the Bulldogs.

The Herald Sun reported on Thursday that Stevens was likely to come cheaply, with the Saints expected to part with only draft pick No. 50 or a future pick.
