AFL Round 4: SuperCoach takeaways from super Sunday

SuperCoaches who traded out Jason Horne-Francis might need to take a long walk. Meanwhile, the midfield bench is under attack at the worst possible time. See the big Sunday takeaways.

Port star in hot water for high bump?

It was a big week of trading in SuperCoach, and some paid immediate dividends.

For others, the regret was almost as instantaneous.

Here are the big takeaways from the last Sunday of the early bye rounds, as GWS, St Kilda and Fremantle recorded wins to round out round 4.

1. MIDFIELD ROOKIE INJURY CRISIS?

Nathan O’Driscoll finished Fremantle’s win against the Bulldogs on the bench with heavy strapping on his ankle. He could join Xavier Lindsay (knee) and Elijah Hewett (calf) on the sidelines, while Lucas Camporeale and Mitch Knevitt weren’t even picked in round 4 and Finn O’Sullivan was a late out with illness. It’s not an ideal situation heading into the return of best 22 scoring, but coaches who held Elijah Tsatas should get one number back.

2. HORNET’S DAY OUT

The SuperCoaches who traded Port Adelaide star Jason Horne-Francis out this week will be regretting that decision after he produced one of his best games yet.

He responded with three crucial goals, 28 disposals and 151 SuperCoach points.

Spending majority of his time forward in the first half, Horne-Francis was the only threatening avenue for the Power.

At one stage of the match he had a whopping 45 more points than his team’s next best, and he could even make money this week after just hitting his whopping 151 Break Even.

3. SINCLAIR SIZZLES

St Kilda reliable playmaker Jack Sinclair rewarded the SuperCoaches who jumped at his early season form with a dazzling day at Adelaide Oval.

He followed up his career-best 40 possessions last week with 25 disposals and a game-saving goal to finish with 119 SuperCoach points.

Sinclair may have fallen short of his projected 126, but he doubled his Break Even.

He was inside the top 10 for trade ins last week and is a good bet to be in there again this week.

4. MARIC IS THE REAL DEAL

No West Coast player reached 100 SuperCoach points but Ryan Maric was closest, with 88 from 22 disposals. The role change to defence is paying dividends and he boosted his score with eight kick-ins, playing on from all eight – including one in which he crept out of the square by mere centimetres. We like to think he knows what he’s doing.

He’s due for a big price rise when lockout lifts, and there are likely plenty more to come.
