Former Fremantle midfielder Ryan Crowley has appeared in court on Thursday after he was hit with a string of domestic violence related charges involving his ex-girlfriend, Married At First Sight star Lauren Dunn.

It has been alleged the argument escalated and the former Docker refused to leave.

Dunn reportedly called police before she opted not to continue with the call.

Crowley allegedly took Dunn’s phone and laptop and became enraged when he discovered an email between Dunn and another man.

He is then accused of throwing the 34-year-old to the floor, shaking her, slamming her head on the ground multiple times and smothered her with a pillow, forcing her to lose consciousness.

At one stage the court was told Dunn cried out for help before she was assaulted again.

Crowley allegedly stayed the night at Dunn’s apartment and prevented her from leaving the following morning, before she was finally able to escape and called for help.

Crowley, the Dockers’ player of the year in 2012, was later arrested at Perth Train Station and hit with nine domestic violence charges.

The charges include impeding Dunn’s breathing by applying pressure to her neck, making threats, unlawfully using a computer and deprivation of liberty in circumstances of aggravation.

He has denied all charges and is expected to fight the allegations.

The 196-game AFL veteran was granted bail and must not contact Dunn under his bail conditions.

He is due to next appear in court on July 24.

The pair were in an on-again, off-again relationship from 2018 to 2023.

Drafted back in 2002, Crawley spent the majority of his career with the Dockers, appearing in 188 games and kicking 117 goals and earning Life Member status with the club.

Appearing in Fremantle’s 2013 grand final loss to Hawthorn, Crowley was suspended for 12 months after testing positive to a banned substance in 2015 and spent one season with the Bombers before retiring.

He joined Essendon as a top-up player following the club’s supplement saga.

Dunn, a public relations and marketing consultant, appeared in season 11 of MAFS in 2024.

She married health business owner Jonathan McCullough before they later opted not to stay together.

Dunn had to temporarily leave the show to have surgery on a blood clot before returning.
