Chasing The Dream: Zeke Uwland’s list of football goals revealed

Zeke Uwland has penned his football goals to keep by his bedside for close to a decade. See the full checklist here — with just two dreams left to achieve.

Zeke Uwland will not have to wait much longer to tick the penultimate box on his bedside list of football dreams – ‘Make National Draft’ – which he drew up while playing junior football for the Burleigh Bombers and watching Gary Ablett Jr star for his hometown Gold Coast Suns.

“Zeke was about eight or nine – maybe even seven – years old and he wrote a list of goals of what he wanted to achieve in football and he stuck it with blue tack on his bedside table and it still remains there to this day because he is still ticking off those goals,” mum Michelle tells CODE Sports in Episode One of Chasing the Dream.

“He gets quite embarrassed about it now because one of those goals is to be a Brownlow Medallist but it’s like ‘you can still dream those big dreams that is awesome’.”

The list, titled “What I have to achieve to make AFL”, is a blow-by-blow look at the smooth-moving left-footer’s pathway to professional football: ‘Make State’. Tick. ‘Make Suns Academy’. Tick. ‘Make U16 All-Australian Team’. Tick.

“It is still there,” Zeke said of his list of goals.

“It won’t move until I tick them all off which I think is a very tough challenge, to win a Brownlow. But it’s there nonetheless and hopefully I’ll be able to tick off one more box come November 19 or 20.

“It’s the first thing I do when I enter my room, I grab the pen and, just by myself, I go and tick it off.

“I’ve literally done it for I don’t know … nine years even, it’s just been on my bedside table.

“I lost it once and I was really scared but I got it back.

“It’s always been a guide for me.”

If it wasn’t for his Gold Coast Academy ties, it could’ve guided Uwland all the way to the top of the draft with many believing the prospect likened to Sydney superstar Errol Gulden is the best in this year’s pool.
