COLLINGWOOD and Carlton are leading the race for Greater Western Sydney key forward James Stewart.
Stewart, 22, the son of former Collingwood and Richmond star Craig Stewart, is highly rated but has been unable to dislodge Jon Patton, Jeremy Cameron and Rory Lobb for a regular senior game.
He has managed just one match this year for a total of 18 in four seasons at the Giants.
Essendon is also interested, but Stewart’s links to former Giants officials Graeme Allan (now Collingwood) and Stephen Silvagni (Carlton) put the Magpies and Blues in front.
The Giants again will be one of the biggest movers in the trade period, with multiple draft picks in the first 30 and other clubs circling a host of fringe players such as Stewart, Caleb Marchbank, Jack Steele and Will Hoskin-Elliott.
