VETERAN midfielder Simon Black will miss Brisbane's clash with St Kilda as the Lions chase their fourth straight win at the Gabba on Saturday night.

Coach Michael Voss conceded Black was unlikely to play against the Saints because of a persistent groin injury that has kept him out of action for the last four weeks.

"It is (dragging on), but he hasn't trained for a month," Voss said.

"I would have thought he is fairly unlikely for this week and more of a possibility next week (against Richmond)."

With the Lions only a mathematical chance of making the finals, Voss said they will now look towards consolidating wins at home in the last five rounds of the season.

Lions are 'reckless' tacklers

"We said at the start of the year one of our goals was to make it really hard for the opposition to win games (at the Gabba)," he said.

"We've got a team that is coming off a really bad loss, and we'll be looking to right some wrongs.

"To me the external motivation is going out there to compete and win every contest.

Voss not giving up on season

"If we fixate on anything else other than that, competition sport has a great way of slapping you around the face.

"We have to capitalise on some of the work we have been putting in the last month and finish off the season really strong."
