Carlton CEO Brian Cook is back to work after dealing with a nasty blood infection that had previously afflicted him after making the climb to Mt Everest base camp.

Carlton chief executive Brian Cook has returned to work after a brief stint in hospital dealing with a blood infection.

The highly-regarded Blues’ boss was admitted to a Geelong hospital for several nights last week with a recurrence of an infection issue he has dealt with infrequently over the past decade.

Cook, 68, who was admitted to hospital for the same issue in 2014 after climbing to Mt Everest base camp, has since returned to work and is feeling well.

The club confirmed there has been no disruption to the club’s end-of-season discussions about its trade period plans and preparations for next season.

Cook, who is one of the most respected club officials in the game after a brilliant reign at Geelong which helped net Geelong three premierships between 2007-2011, will lead the Blues’ off-field team next year.

Carlton is considering its options for a replacement CEO from 2026. An announcement could be made mid year.

Former Hawthorn and Collingwood football manager Graham Wright could be contacted about the role.

Carlton will be one of the leading contenders for the flag next year and is considering its trade options for midfielder Matt Kennedy in next month’s exchange period.
