The Brisbane Lions have charged into the second week of finals and a date with the GWS Giants in Sydney after humiliating the Carlton their elimination final.

While the final score of 28 points suggests it was somewhat close, it came after a near-historic opening half annihilation.

The Lions had 60 on the board before the Blues scored their first point when Patrick Cripps booted a goal with just under four minutes left in the first half.

The scoreless first quarter was the first scoreless first quarter in an AFL final since North Melbourne against Richmond in the 1974 semi-final.

While the Blues booted five straight goals, the side couldn’t get closer than 28-points behind as the Lions cruised into week 2 of the finals.

Earlier the Swans stole a thrilling six-point victory over the Giants and the winner of Saturday night’s match will next face GWS in Sydney in a semi-final.
